oldmonitor Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Does anybody know which Hotwire hotels in the DC area have two queen beds?I'm interested in a reservation for 6/9-6/13, preferably near the Convention Center, but can go far out if necessary. Must be <$150 or so a night, and must be 3 stars or above.
oldmonitor Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 Posted on the Hotwire forum as well, but posting here too since it's different.Does anybody know which Priceline hotels in the DC area have two queen beds? This is for a family w/ 2 adults and 2 kids.I'm interested in a reservation for 6/9-6/13, preferably near the Convention Center, but can go far out if necessary. Must be <$150 or so a night, and must be 3 stars or above.I *know* you can't get a Priceline hotel with two queen beds, so what I mean is a hotel that will accommodate a request like without an extra charge (or if they want an extra charge, it's reasonable.)
thereuare Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.I'm going to guess that PRICELINE is not a viable option for you for this stay... they only guarantee double occupancy, and as you can't choose, or even target, a specfic property thru their service, there is no assurance that the hotel you receive will be willing to accept a request to accomodate quad occupancy.HOTWIRE will allow you to search for up to quad ocupancy, but i'll suggest you try a different approach then what the path you're heading down above. Search HOTWIRE for quad occupancy and see what is offered within your desired star rating and budget, and from there try to determine which hotels they are and the type of bedding configurations available at each property. No sense in trying to figure out the bedding arrangement at every hotel in the area since the majority of them will never be offered for your particular search or they may be priced out of your budget. If you search HOTWIRE for quad occupancy, is anything offered in your prefered zone(s) and withing your budget and star rating requirements? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. oldmonitor Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 Thanks!I see that HOTWIRE has no hotels in the Convention Center / Whitehouse region. :-( Do these usually open up in the Washington DC region closer to the date I'm interested in? I saw them 2-3 weeks ago, but all the hotels I see now are sooo overpriced or if they're reasonable, they're just not close to the convention center area. I'm really interested in booking close to the convention center area. Any tips on what to do?
AaronJB Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 There's no way of knowing if inventory will come in closer to dates. I'm not familiar with DC, but I'm guessing there's a convention happening and inventory for hotels nearby that area dried up, which lead to prices heading North while you were waiting to book. If you want to stay near the convention area, you could either pay more for one of the HOTWIRE offerings, try to find a regular rate back-up that works for you and that you can cancel if a better HOTWIRE deal pops up closer to the dates or try to attempt to use PRICELINE.However, all of those ideas are going to be costly if there's a convention going on. If there's a regular rate hotel that is costly but works and is refundable, at least you can cancel that if a better deal appears on HOTWIRE closer to the dates - however, there's no guarantee of rates coming back down. If you do decide to book a hotel, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the links on the site's support page
thereuare Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Also, searching for quad occupancy often reduces the number of available hotels (leaving the more expensive options) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
oldmonitor Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 OK, booked my hotel! Not sure how to update the original title and everything, but here you go:Washington Marriott Wardman Park06/09/09-06/10/09$61/nightI targeted 3.5* hotels in the following five areas:Convention Ctr - Capitol Hill AreaDupont Circle - Woodley ParkGeorgetown - Foggy BottomWhite House - DowntownDC Suburbs - Northeast AreaI was accepted at $61. I was rejected at $54. I also got a request to bid again with $14 more with the $54 request.I just bid $61 again in the end and was accepted.Of course, I used the PRICELINE link from BetterBidding to bid. :)
thereuare Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received a nice deal and are happy with the results.Did you opt for two rooms, which would still bring you below your original $150 budget, or are you hoping to get a room with two beds?Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. oldmonitor Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 I'm going with one room. I called the Marriott. They said they'd try to give me a room with two double beds, though they couldn't guarantee it. They even asked me if I bought on Priceline. :) Strangely, I could find a room for only the first day. :) Still hunting for the other days.Any suggestions on what other cities to target on Priceline? I want to expand my scope to see which other nearby cities can offer me cheap rates. I want the cities to be < 10 mi from Washington, DC since I don't want a commute of more than 15-20 minutes or so or get stuck in crazy traffic.Looks like Arlington and Alexandria are the only good areas. Anything else I'm missing? Please spin this up in a new thread if preferred.Arlington, VA -- 5 miAlexandria, VA -- 7.4 miBethesda, MD -- 16 miRockville, MD -- 21 miReston, VA -- 21 miChantilly, VA -- 23 miHerndon, VA -- 26 miSterling, VA -- 27 miDulles, VA -- 31 miAshburn, VA -- 35 mi
thereuare Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 I would focus on cities with Metro access rather than intending to drive into the city. For help with the balance of your stay please start a NEW TOPIC.
