piomagic Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Hi folks, looking for a room for July 26-30 I got an offer by hotwire3* Empire State Building Areaboutique, restaurant, laundry$114 and2.5* Empire State Building AreaFitness, Laundry, Kitchenette$119would fit the Murray Hill East Suites, since this has a "previously 2.5*" in the list...Any idea which hotel these could be?Peter
AaronJB Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)The 2.5* is likely the Murray Hill East Suites, as it's coming up with those amenities and star rating on the vacation package side of the service.Unfortunately, not sure what the unidentified 3* is. However, another 3* idea in the general area is the Broadway Plaza, which is $121.81 on Orbitz, plus the coupon code deal0hotel offers an additional 10% off each night. That hotel also offers complimentary breakfast. Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 The 3* ESB property may be the Thirty Thirty. However, there seeem to be similarly priced hotels at a higher star rating offered on HOTWIRE, is there something in particular you're looking for from this stay? piomagic Posted May 19, 2009 Author Report Posted May 19, 2009 is there something in particular you're looking for from this stay? What is your maximum budget?Price is an issue, but not at all cost :-) - looking for reasonable quality at reasonable cost. We want to stay in Manhattan, if possible, to minimize daily travel time as far as possible. I have considered staying in Queens or NJ or so, but hesitate... Since we are 6 people, the current backup booking (2 rooms, 4/2pax) is for the La Quinta at a reasonable price (157+tax, room for four), but still am looking for other options - including three rooms for more comfort.Peter
thereuare Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 How many rooms/adults are you searching for above? When i searched HOTWIRE last nite for 1room/2adults i saw the prices above for the ESB property... but now when searching 3rooms/6adults the above property doesn't show at all.I do think you have some other options within this pricepoint though... when searching for 3rooms/6adults there is a 3.5* in the MTE zone for $119/nite with Restaurant, Internet, Business icons and a 4.0/5.0 Tripadvisor rating... a match for the Helmsley New York so that would be our best guess and gets good reviews. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how you'd like to proceed. piomagic Posted May 19, 2009 Author Report Posted May 19, 2009 Let us know your thoughts and/or how you'd like to proceed. Can't find that quote now either. Probably I made a search-mistake...But extending beyond Manhattan, I get a 62$ offer at a Brooklyn 3*, breakfast, business ctr., internet - most likely the HIE 625 Union st., which seems a great offer to me. The Helmsley you suggested is definitely a good option, but is it worth almost 100% more?Peter
thereuare Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Whether it's worth more or not is a pesonal decision and how you like to travel...Staying in Brooklyn you typically leave your hotel in the morning, come back at nite, and are out for the day... you lose some of the freedom of staying directly in Manhattan and being able to come/go as you please, walk out of your hotel room and have the day at your fingertips, and return to the hotel during the day to relax, freshen up before dinner, etc. NYC definately has a 'vibe' to it and you miss out on some of that when staying outside of the city.Have you been to Manhattan before? If so, then staying outside the city may become a more viable option, if you've never been, then you'll be missing out on some of the experience, imo. What's that "experience' worth? That's the question for you to decide. :)As well, do you stay out late at nite? If so, depending upon your age, comfort levels in cities, etc. you may not feel comfortable riding the subway too late at nite, needing to take a taxi back to the hotel. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. We need to make up our minds... thanks so far.And ... will it be possible to find a hotel in Manhattan at (close to) that rate?Peter
