andev Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 I'm looking to book a 3.5-4* hotel in new york from 10/28/09-11/5/09, preferably a central location but I'm keen to avoid Sheraton Towers in MTW. I realise that this is new york marathon time, so prices may be high. I was hoping to get an idea of a suitable bidding strategy. Also, should I consider breaking the trip up?

andev Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 I hope to spend approximately $150 after taxes. Do you think that's feasible given the time of year?
thereuare Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Before taxes and fees, $150 'all-in' is about a $125 bid amount, which is not realistic at the moment for a 4* hotel for these dates (and at the moment i'm doubtful it will be enough for a 3.5* either)... this is typically a busy time of year in NYC.There is no harm in trying, but i think you're likely going have to adjust your expectations and/or budget. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for these dates thru conventional booking channels? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.Unfortuantely this property has not yet been identified, but as per my comments above, the $166/nite rate i'm currently seeing for this amounts to over $190/nite after fees and taxes, have you increased your nightly budget? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? If so i think you could purchase the above for $166/nite for part of your stay, then once you know the hotel you can decide if you want to stay there for the balance of your stay (if availabe, but at the moment it appears to be avaialble for the split dates i'm using) OR if it's worth moving to save some money and/or improve your hotel star rating, by staing at what i believe to the the Crowne Plaza Times Square for ~$135/nite.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Thoughts? (NOTE: if splitting the stay is of interest please reply before moving forward as you would need to make sure everything is "lined up" for the dates you split before purchasing either leg of the stay) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
andev Posted June 4, 2009 Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 Thankyou SO much for all your help.I decided to go ahead and book from the 1st -5th November on Hotwire as the rates I was getting were SO cheap. I booked via the HOTWIRE link.I got: Crown Plaza for $119 on Hotwire for 11/1/09-11/5/09. I am extremely happy with this and was reluctant to wait in case the prices went up. I had initially been trying to bid for 4* places on Priceline up to $200 in MTE, CPS and Times Square with no luck.I am now looking for somewhere for the 10/28/09-11/1/09 and my budget is $190 per night not including taxes. If I can't find a good 3.5* or 4* during this time I am contemplating visiting another city..possibly boston for a few days. I would prefer to stay in NYC if that's possible. Thanks again for all your help, I am very grateful :)
thereuare Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you were successful by splitting your stay... at least you got part of your stay taken care of for nearly half of what you were previously bidding for the coplete stay, so looks like changing hotels will likely be worth the effort. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page..Then start a NEW TOPIC for the balance of your stay (so we can stick with the board format of one win per thread and reflect the hotel you eventually receive in the topic title of that thread, just as we have done with this one)Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy this leg of your stay. andev Posted June 4, 2009 Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 The amenities shown before I won Crown Plaza were: fitness centre, high speed internet, restaurant and business centre. Thanks again for all your help.
