rmunson1 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Like everyone, I would like to get the best room at the lowest price. I saw the post about Trump having a $14 resort fee - that ought to be illegal for pre-paid rooms. Anyway, suggested strategy? I probably prefer the Venetian, but any true 5* will do.
thereuare Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 I assume your checkin/checkout dates are 8/17-8/19?Is the Trump an acceptable outcome? (note: you mention "on the strip" but although the Trump is within the boundaries of the strip zone, it is slighly off-strip) What is your maximum bid for this stay?If you are looking to avoid the Trump i do see what is believed to be the Wynn for $106/nite thru HOTWIRE.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. rmunson1 Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 Yes - check in Monday, 8/17, check out Wed, 8/19.yes, the Trump is acceptable - I don't care that much about location (other gripes) nor lack of casino (yet other gripes). But, I do care about the $15 resort fee. That changes the price comparison a lot. Priceline is greatly misleading you when you 'win' at one price and then pay $15 per night on top of that rate. The Wynn at $106 would be nice, but I'm still looking for cheaper.I saw the Trump at $99 for these dates here:BookItAlso - same link, I saw Luxor for $55 for the same dates. This may be the best deal - not 5*, but very cheap. I would be really annoyed to 'win' the Trump for $80 and pay $95 when I could have had the Luxor for $55 straight up. I am thinking that at some point today I saw the Trump for $89 for these dates, but I can't find it now.So, I am familiar with free rebids. However, it seems like Priceline is too. When I try North Strip, I can only get one free rebid and when I lose on that one, it sends me off into some new link with fixed hotel names/prices that is really annoying. It is very difficult to get back to the 'name your price' web pages.I have tried $55, 56, 57, 58 so far (using your link to PRICELINE). Then it became too tedious and I gave up.Bottom line - I want good and cheap. Would like to avoid paying over $70/night (especially since that means $85 at the Trump) since Priceline would have me locked down and have my money 3 months in advance.I can just keep playing the game with free rebids, every other day or so, but the Luxor (backup plan) appears to be 'book within 48 hours or lose it. If you think I have zero chance getting a hit between $55 and $70, I won't waste my time and just book the Luxor.Anyway, thanks for your service and thanks for your time. I will definitely use your links if I book anything on Priceline or Hotwire.
rmunson1 Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 I have found many sites where I can just buy Trump directly for $89 (+$15) and also get Luxor for $55 (+$5) without the 'deal expires in 48 hours' clause. So, I guess I'll just keep trying to go low on PRICELINE for 5* on the off chance that a non-Trump win could come in and settle for Luxor as a last resort.
thereuare Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Note that besides priceline and hotwire, as per our SUPORT PAGE, we're also an affiliate of the Luxor if you choose to book that property. You can go to the LUXOR and book these two nites for $60/nite which is refundable up until 48 hours before your arrival (doublecheck terms yourself during checkout) which gives you a rate and property you appear to be happy with as well as the opporutnity to continue to try PRICELINE and HOTWIRE for a better deal.HOTWIRE does have what is believed to be the Trump for $79/nite (plus resort fee). Note that the Luxor also has a Resort fee of $11/day.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. rmunson1 Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks for your (always) high quality advice/replies. I'll go that route. By the way, even though the 48 hours didn't expire, and I found Luxor for $55 in several places, all places now say $60 in stead of $55. Strange. I haven't been making THAT many inquiries to cause them to bump the price for those dates!
thereuare Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 With the Luxor having 4400+ rooms there are probably others who are booking rooms besides yourself :)But a good example of why it's a good idea to book fully refundable reservations no matter how far away your stay is... it protects you against any price increases while still giving you the ability to take advantage of any price drops and/or better deals which may come along.
