Hotwire Hotel: 4* Chicago (The Loop) Palmer House Hilton

Thanks again to betterbidding for finding us a great deal for our memorial-day weekend getaway.

I'd looked at rates a few weeks ago and found lots around $100, but was having a hard time finding a flight that would suit my work schedule. procrastinated and was disappointed to find almost everything had jumped to closer to $150 or more. was reluctant to use priceline for this because the zones were just too big and seemed a bit strange to me.

decided to look once more (using the HOTWIRE links at the top of the page, of course), and was very pleased to find a 4* in the loop for $79, well within my budget. reviews make me suspect this place will be great for the price, although it sounds like it's not nice enough to command the rack rates.

The Palmer House is a massive (I believe it's the 2nd or 3rd largest hotel in the city), convention-oriented property. It's also a very historic property, and room sizes tend to be below the norm as a result (although there are some exceptions.) Service isn't going to be personalized due to the size of the property, and some don't take as well to older properties. It's a very nice hotel, but it does have limitations due to size and age.

However, for $79, it's a great place to sleep in a central location in the Loop, and the hotel's grand lobby is incredibly beautiful, to the point where I recommend those who aren't staying there to peek in and take a look at it.
