cchris824 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I've been bidding for a 4* in MTW, MTE, and TS and all my bids have been rejected. I followed all the re-bidding strategies and still no luck. I saw that other people were able to get rooms for $120 around the same dates in MTE or MTW. I started bidding at $100 and increased my bid in increments of $5-$10. I don't want to pay more than $125. Any suggestions on what I should do?
AaronJB Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Welcome to the site. Are the dates in question the exact same as yours? If not, that could be an issue - one of your dates may be busier/problematic.What exactly have you bid up to at this point, $125?HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the Times Square/Theatre District with the amenities: boutique, free breakfast, pool, business, spa for $123 (the price you see may vary.) While not a 4*, at least it does offer free breakfast (which is a rare bonus at NYC hotels). This is a likely match for the Room-Mate Grace, which gets very good reviews. If this idea is of interest, please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I'll add that, at the moment, i think you'll need to be closer to the $135-$160 range (hopefully the lower end of this range) for a 4* hotel for these dates.Does the HOTWIRE hotel above work for your needs?Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cchris824 Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 This is what other people got for the around the same dates:$115 6/18-6/21 - Grand Hyatt$120 6/17-6/21 - Grand Hyatt$120 6/18-6/21 - Grand HyattI've only bid up to $125. I think I'm going to try PRICELINE a few more time, before I try HOTWIRE, but thanks for the suggestion.Should I start with a higher bid? $110?

Glad to know that's the cracked code for Room-Mate Grace; I've stayed there from the Hotel QT days and really like it (although it requires a certain mindset) -- and you're right that those five icons in a row aren't likely going to be anyone else. cchris, I'd say go for it if you can get Grace for under $125; great beds, scrupulously clean, simple but quality breakfast, and really great people watching especially if you aren't squeamish about sitting in the pool/all-glass steamroom with your out of shape body :-)>>Brent
