brotine Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Went from $95 to $120 in $1 increments last night for 4* MTE and ESB (I refuse to chance staying at the MTW Sheraton d-u-m-p) with no success. There are some smaller conventions in town which may affect availability, I guess, but I do have a $119+subway ride backup res at a great boutique and don't want to go much higher. Will be trying again and report if I get a win.>>Brent

brotine Posted May 14, 2009 Author Report Posted May 14, 2009 No success this morning. Went from $101 by one dollar amounts up to $120 using permutations for MTE, and added bids on every even amount to include MTE, ESB or UWS (Empire Hotel is well worth it if you can get it at this rate.) Used the BB PRICELINE links, of course. My back-up reservation at $119 is the Nu Hotel in downtown Brooklyn, a straight shot on the F train from my midtown meetings with a block walk to the subway at each end. They had a special I found at Travelzoo some weeks back; it's a new boutique eco-friendly hotel with cork floors, everything organic and big HDTVs in the rooms and the reviews are all good. I'm intrigued, and have never set foot in Brooklyn all my years of traveling to NYC, so it piqued my interest. But I'd also like being in walking distance to my meeting for the extra half hour of sleep.Should I keep trying tomorrow and Saturday?>>Brent
thereuare Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 You can continue to try, but at the moment based upon current prices, i don't think you're going to be successful for a 4* at $120 or less.Any chance you need to be 42nd St in midtown? Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your bidding. brotine Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 You're right -- tried Thursday and Friday, both days going from $100 to $120, no success and no counter-offers that may have kept me going. So guess I'm going to keep the backup and subway it to 42nd in Midtown for my meetings. Thinking about making the arrangements now for another NYC trip I'm working on for mid-June.>>Brent
brotine Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 Chose to use my backup, the Nu Hotel in Brooklyn, which was absolutely great. Extremely comfortable beds, organic everything, and on a nice day you can walk across the bridge if business takes you to lower Manhattan. Price has gone well up, however, so it's back to PRICELINE next time I'm in NYC -- thanks for the help.
