12xu Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 My girlfriend and I are headed to Chicago for the Pitchfork Festival. I'd like to stay somewhere nice while we're in town. So far I've found a 4* on Hotwire for $89 a night ($410 total with taxes/fees) in North Michigan Ave/Water Tower/Gold Coast that from what I've gathered by looking at this site is the Avenue. Any tips on other places I should look or deals I might be missing? I'd like to be somewhere downtown. (NMA or The Loop) Any help is appreciated. This site is fantastic, btw. I just discovered it tonight, but I'm really impressed. Will definitely be revisiting every time I need to book a hotel room!
thereuare Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you'd like us to confirm what you believe you're being offered is the Avenue Hotel, what are the amenities that HOTWIRE associates with the property being offered? What is your maximum budget... what i believe is The James (generally very good reviews) is available for $139/nite... but not sure if it's worth an extra $50/nite to you)Let us know your thoughts regarding the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. 12xu Posted May 13, 2009 Author Report Posted May 13, 2009 The amenities are: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Tennis NearbyI think we'd like to come in around the $400 mark, so $139 a night might be pushing it.If I'm right, and that is the Avenue, am I better off going with that, or trying to priceline a similar price somewhere else? Will I end up with a better hotel that way?
AaronJB Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 The Avenue is a recently remodeled (it used to be the Radisson Chicago) property in a prime location a half a block from Michigan Ave. It's a superb location and most reviews have been very good. For $89 a night, I'd take that. If you're coming here for the festival, I'm guessing you're not going to be in the room for much of the time, anyways, so if you can get something like that for cheap, I'd take it.You can possibly do a bit better with PRICELINE, but then the hotel choice becomes more "the luck of the draw". If you would like to go that route, let us know and we can make suggestion/s.Let me take a brief look around and see if I find any other possibilities. Be back in a couple of minutes.
AaronJB Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I'm seeing a 3.5* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area with the amenities Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness Center, Business, Laundry Facility, and High Speed Internet Access for $109. On the detail page, it has a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating. While its identity has not yet been confirmed, there's a good possibility this could be the Amalfi. Despite the lower HOTWIRE star rating, this would be a worthwhile upgrade for $20 a night (plus, free breakfast.)
AaronJB Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Overall:1. If you would like to try PRICELINE, we would be happy to make suggestions.2. If you're looking for the most reasonable HOTWIRE offering, the Avenue would work just fine.3. If $109 is within your budget, the potential Amalfi would be a very nice choice. You can't really go wrong choosing any one of these three options. It's just a matter of what you prefer/what you feel is best for the situation.
12xu Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 I ended up staying at the Intercontinental on this trip, I believe through a Hotwire purchase. I wish I could report the cost, but it was 5 years ago and the e-mail with the price was deleted a while ago.
AaronJB Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Please attempt to see if the information is still available under the trip information in your Hot.wire account - thanks. Hope you enjoyed your stay.
12xu Posted June 24, 2014 Author Report Posted June 24, 2014 I checked (both hotwire and priceline, in case it ended up being a priceline purchase), but no dice on either site.
