I am new to this forum and have never used priceline. I am looking for a good deal for 4 people for 10/8 and 10/9. I am flexible with location...but 4 people means I need a fairly large room. Any suggestions?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Priceline only guarantees accomodations for two people, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. Often not a problem in family oriented destinations like Orlando, but could be a problem in an area such as NYC where rooms are notoriously small.

In a recent development Hotwire now let's you choose up to 2 adults and 2 children in one room... but not 4 adults. (don't know the make-up of your 4 people).

Look into booking two rooms via Priceline... may very well be cheaper than booking one direct with the hotel (and if only slightly more, gives you the benefit of getting ready in the morning which speeds things up considerably).

Let us know how you want to proceed and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (Priceline) or help you try to identify the hotels beforehand (Hotwire).... or however else we can help.

I am really on a limited budget. That I guess is the main concern. The fact that I will have 4 people complicates things as well though- since there are some very small rooms in NY. I will have to go with one room, sharing beds is fine, but would like to end up with doubles if possible. I know you can't guaruantee bed sizes...

I guess 10/9 in particular looks like a tough night. I was hoping to find someting for $175 a night 10/8, 10/9. This may not be possible. Would really appreciate suggestions.

Regardless of price, Priceline only guarantees accomodations for two people.

It's 4 adults that you are looking for?

I just did a search for your dates on Hotwire and they did accept a request for 4 adults in one room (since this feature is so new we experimented with this the other day and sometimes it would accept 4 adults, sometimes not.... not sure if it's zone related or if they keep changing their minds). Anyway, a 4* hotel comes up in MTE at $238/nite, and i suspect that it's likely this hotel is the Grand Hyatt (but you won't know for certain after you agree to buy it).

I don't know if you have a back-up reservation and/or how this compares to any alternate plans that you have. If you decide to move forward on this, i recommend you print out your confirmation page that shows that the reservation if for 4 adults. This feature is so new at Hotwire that even some of the hotel staff may not be up to date on it and having a printed receipt of your confirmation should resolve any problems quickly.

Let us know what you decide to do (even if it isn't Priceline or Hotwire) and how we can be of any addtional help.

I have a back up reservation that I just got at the Beekman Towers. One bedroom suite for $250/night. I don't know anything about Beekman Towers... I guess I have to decide if it is worth taking a gamble on hotwire/priceline and maybe getting a nicer hotel for less money but without being able to specify # of beds

The idea behind using Hotwire is that by selecting 4 adults from the drop down menu it should ensure you getting two beds. Since the reservation is for four (and your confirmation states such), they couldn't assign you to a room with only one bed.

The reviews of the beekman seem very good.
