Priceline Hotel: Please Help: San Diego Mission Valley 5/16 - 5/18/09

This is my first time bidding with Priceline, so I appreciate any tips on bidding strategy. I need a room for my parents for 2 nights and they prefer to be in or near Hotel Circle. Easy Click Travel is offering Doubletree at Hazard Center for $61/night (plus taxes, fees and parking), so that is an option, but of course I would love to find them something cheaper if possible. I am thinking of limiting to 3* or 3 1/2* to make sure they get something decent (of course, they have been known to book Motel 6 when left to their own devices). TIA!

One semi-interesting idea is the Four Points San Diego in the Mission Valley area, which is $79 on Orbitz.com, but you can use coupon code deal0hotel for an additional 10% off per night. There is also this deal on Orbitz.com, as well:

There is a 2.5* in the Hotel Circle-Mission Valley area on HOTWIRE for $55 with the amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Fitness, Laundry, which would appear to be a match for the Comfort Inn.

In terms of bidding, what star rating would you be interested in bidding on? What would be your max bid?

Thanks for the Orbitz info, Aaron. I will consider that one (especially attractive with the restaurant gift certificate). If I bid on PRICELINE, $55 would probably be my max bid since I can get Doubletree for $61 and know what I am getting. I am thinking 3*.

Thanks for the help. I used your Orbitz link to book the Four Points Sheraton. The $50 restaurant coupon put it ahead of the Doubletree at the same price point.
