I am going to begin bidding in a few days. I was considering starting out near 100.00 but really do not want to get the Westin hotel.

Am I better off bidding 130.00 in hopes of scoring the Marriott perhaps or would i still get the Westin likely?

How does the scaling work?

If I am nervous am I better off bidding for 5 days and if I win the Westin bidding a higher price for the remaining 5 days on the island?

What would you reco?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I'd start with this thread: Don't Bid Higher For a Specific Hotel

If there is a hotel in the zone you're trying to avoid i would sooner try HOTWIRE where you can often take an educated guess as to the hotel you'll receive based upon the amenities associated with the property (or hopefully at least tell what it's not, thus avoiding the hotel you're trying to avoid). It will cost you a little more than PRICELINE, but you have a better chance of getting what you want.

Once you're ready to bid/purchase let us know the actual dates of your stay and other paticulars (star rating, budet, etc) and we'll advise accordingly.

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

Maybe a little risky... but there is a little quirk in bidding for Aruba properties which basically allows free bids. For Aruba priceline bidding, you can choose the location as "Aruba, Aruba or Oranjestad, Aruba" or "Palm Beach, Aruba" Now the selection of Aruba, Aruba is going to have a greater choice of properties from 4* down to Resorts but "Palm Beach, Aruba" has only 4* to 2.5* with no resorts available.

4* Palm Beach bids have required higher bids to trigger wins ~$125-140 range. My theory is that is more likely to get the Marriott than Aruba, Aruba bidding which has been around the $110 range and getting the Westin. Just a theory from experience and would love feedback.

In summary, try Palm Beach, Aruba bidding to avoid the Westin and Reniassance Hotels but would run higher in cost. Use Aruba, Aruba for the lowest possible cost and making all Hotels available.
