Hotwire Hotel: Newbie help w/ NYC

I have been in this site and it is great. Do people just read the "wins" others have gotten to determine which hotel it may be?

From the threads that I have read people are talking about how to narrow the hotels by trip advisor, stars amenities etc. How do you find this (may sound stupid to you but I stink at this and have been here for 2 hours!)

Looking for:

NYC -Times Square area and found (on Hotwire):

3.5* MTC $139- Smoke free rms, Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi Speed Internet

3.5* Times Sq/Theater Dist. $169- Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi Speed Internet

4* Times Sq/ Theatre Dist. $179- Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi Speed Internet

How do I determine which one is which.
