Please Help,

I looked on Hotwire for 4* hotels but didn't find anything for the dates i'm searching for. I'll be in New York for 2 nights 5/12 and 5/13/09.

It looks like the Intercontinental Barclay and Grand Hyatt New York had past success but I don't see these hotels on the HotWire list. Has the ameneties changed? Or can you reccommend a different 4* hotel located in a convenient location. I'd prefer to spend under $200 but if I have to, I can go over that amount.

Any suggestions? Should I try PriceLine? I'm just not familiar with that site.

I'm very new to this so please be tatient with me.

I've been researching and have familiarized myself with quite a bit, however, when it comes to bidding i'm still lost. Is there really a bid option on Hotwire. It seems that there is only hotels listed that includes certain ameneties for a particular price. When you click on it, it just prompts you to make a purchase. Isn't this just the hot RATE?

Is it better to try Priceline over Hotwire?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I looked on Hotwire for 4* hotels but didn't find anything for the dates i'm searching for.
I just searched HOTWIRE hotels for your dates and there are 4* hotels offered (did you click the 'star rating' link near the top of the offerings to rank the offers by star rating?)... what do you mean by you didn't find anything? :)

Not all hotels are offered or available for every set of dates. In fact, HOTWIRE will only show one hotel at each star level in each zone (the lowest price hotel is the one shown)... so if you are seeing a 4* hotel offered for your dates but it doesn't appear to be the InterContinental or the Grand Hyatt, then a different hotel in this zone is offering rates lower than either of these two properties for your dates.

Currently all 4* hotel on HOTWIRE for your dates are $200+... do you want to try PRICELINE for a lower priced 4* where you won't have the ability to take a guess as to the property you're likely to receive... or do you want to consider a lower rated HOTWIRE hotel under $200/nite which you'll have the ability to guess as to what it is before your purchase?

Let us know your thoughts and/or any questions you have regarding the above.

Based upon your other posts (which i didn't see until after replying above) this would be a good place for you to start, as it explains the similiarities, and differences, between PRICELINE and HOTWIRE:

I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire

Does anyone know which hotels these are, most-likely?

1. 4-star hotel in Midtown East 5/12-5/14 $264 Fitness, Restaraunt, Business, Hi-Speed, Spa

2. 4-star hotel in Downtown - SoHo 5/12-5/14 $234 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, hi-Speed

3. 4-star hotel in Times Square - Theatre District $243 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Hi-Speed

My husband and I will be in NYC for just a couple of days and are hoping to stay at the W Hotel or any other 4 star hotel. We will go for the cheapest 4* hotel rate, but if the hotel at the higher price is incredible, we may be willing to pay for it.

Thank you so much.

My husband and I will be in NYC on 5/12-5/14. Can anyone reccommend a good 3.5* hotel that is cheaper than a 4* hotel, but feels like a 4* property.

Let's try to focus in a little on what's important to you...

Are you looking for luxury with high end amenities and willing to 'pay up for it' OR are you looking for value (ie- don't need high thread count sheets, lotions, etc if the price is right) For example, what i believe is the Wyndham Garden Hotel is available for your dates for ~$150/nite.... this is not a 4* hotel, but the reviews are very good and for about $100 less per nite than what you're considering above, perhaps you can forgo the higher star rating.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly.

Thank you fro your reply. I'm actually interested in the following hotels:

1. 4-star hotel in Midtown East 5/12-5/14 $264 Fitness, Restaraunt, Business, Hi-Speed, Spa

2. 4-star hotel in Downtown - SoHo 5/12-5/14 $234 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, hi-Speed

3. 4-star hotel in Times Square - Theatre District $243 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Hi-Speed

4. 4-star hotel in Midtown Central $223 Fitness Center, Restaurant, High Speed Internet

Can you tell me which hotels these are? I don't mind the prices here because the hotels are 4*. Any of these hotels will do. I would like to research them a bit furthere once I know which hotels they are. We will be in New York for only two nights. Which location would you reccommend or which of these 3 hotels would you reccommend?

PLEASE KEEP ALL POSTS FOR THE SAME STAY IN THE SAME THREAD

1. 4-star hotel in Midtown East 5/12-5/14 $264 Fitness, Restaraunt, Business, Hi-Speed, Spa
This property is no longer showing on my own HOTWIRE search for your dates. Now appears a 4* MTE with Restaurant, Fitness, Internet, Business, Tennis; Tripadvisor rating of 3.5/5.0 with 580+ Reviews... best gues for this one (the only i'm seeing on my search) is the InterContinental Barclay
2. 4-star hotel in Downtown - SoHo 5/12-5/14 $234 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, hi-Speed
No 4* currently appearing in this zone on my HOTWIRE search for your dates
3. 4-star hotel in Times Square - Theatre District $243 Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Hi-Speed
Matches the Crowne Plaza Times Square so that woudl be my best guess
4. 4-star hotel in Midtown Central $223 Fitness Center, Restaurant, High Speed Internet
Minimal amenities listed, and ones that are present at most 4* NYC hotels, but the Algonquin has previously been reported with thie amenity combination so that would be my best guess for this one.

Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.

Thank you so much for your help. It looks like the offered hotels change very quickly on Hotwire. I ran another search and came up with different options. I sent in a new Post asking for help to ID these new hotels.

I've also put a couple of bids in on priceline. I did it for the 4* hotels because I'm pretty sure I'll like any 4star hotel in the ME district. I am more hesitant when it gets to the 3*-3.5* area. I have to wait until tomorrow to bid again though. If the new hotels I found on Hotwire seem good, I might just buy it through Hotwire and skip the priceline bidding.

hopefully ill have something booked tomorrow. I'm happy to follow up and share those results.

i have one more question, do hotel prices usually go down a couple days before the reservation is needed? or perhaps the day before? Or is the trend usually upward pricing as the date nears?

mahalo,

Tricia
