$79 per night, and with taxes it's $92 per night. Rate on other travel sites is $88 before taxes, so not much savings on Hotwire.

I was hoping for the Hampton Inn. I probably won't bother next time with HOTWIRE for only a 10% savings. Hotwire lists La Quinta as a standard 2 star hotel in thier ratings guide, so this one better be two notches above average.

Sorry to hear you're disappionted with your purchase. I wouldn't necessarily write-off HOTWIRE based upon your experience with this one purchase, but instead suggest doing a little more research first (including asking the board for help) so that you have a better guestimate of what you may be receiving.

As well, you'll often find that the bigger "deals" are often at the higher star rated hotel (although admittedly there may not be many of those in this area) as there is much more margin available to discount a $200/nite hotel room than there is a $100/nite hotel room.
