I am bidding 2 rooms for 2 nights, July 3 - July 5.

I wish I could win Residence Inn Vermont Ave and the below are 2 winning.

3* DC (White House-Downtown) Residence Inn Vermont Ave, $55 ... 7/2/09-7/4/09

3* DC (White House-Downtown) Residence Inn Vermont Ave, $60 ... 4/17/09-4/19/09

So far I bid up to $65 but still failed.

Is July 4 pricey?

Any advise?

Hotel prices change all the time based upon occupancy rates... given the win above, for the same dates as your own, was succcessful at $55 while you have been rejected at $65, indicates that demand/occupancy has gone higher since their win. If the htoel is currently 'ahead of schedule' for where they think they should be in terms of occupancy for for these dates, and bookings continue strong, then you can see rates rise and go even higher from here... likewise if the hotel gets more cancellations then they anticipate then rates will like fall.

However, it is July 4th weekend and i would typically expect higher than expected demand for these dates.

July 4 isn't normally that pricey; however, $55 a night is cheap for a residence inn ANYWHERE! The breakfast is worth $8-10 a person and the rooms have a full kitchen in them. I've stayed overnight on July 4 in the past and Crystal city is usually a very good value bet, but you have to deal with Metro to get there. Anything under $100 downtown should be considered a good deal.

I am increasing the price slowly. So far $70 was failed.

I used PRICELINE.

3* failure up to $75 (Gtown+Dupont+WhiteHouse), 5/12/09-5/13/09

I am just wondering whether I should bid more than $75 or find other area like Crystal City as advised.

(It is difficult to forget $55 and $60 winnings)

Or change data to 7/9 ~ 7/10.

It really depends what you're looking for, but i always prefer to stay in the city vs. the outskirts, unless the savings are enough to make it worthwhile, which i don't necessarily think is the case in this instance.

Searching HOTWIRE for your dates there is a 4.5* hotel in the Dupont Circle zone for $105/nite, just over your budget, believed to the Madison Loews... reviews are generally good but the last few not so much (although note that these users likely paid much more than $100/nite and likely have a higher expectation due to the price that they paid).

However, looking further, HOTWIRE also has a 3.5* in this zone for $86/nite, with Boutique, Restaurant, Smoke Free, Internet, Business icons... and a tripadvisor rating of 4.5/5.0 (which is excellent). This is a match for the Hotel Madera and you can read the reviews HERE. Even though they don't have an included breakfast, they do have a wine reception every nite (which for me is worth more than breakfast :) )

After several failures, I decided to use hotwire instead of priceline.

I used HOTWIRE.

I got:

Holiday Inn National Airport/Crystal City

July 3 - July 5

$52.00

Because I needed 2 rooms, $10 higher meant $20 to me.

Metro is required but parking looks cheaper than downtown hotels.

I guess Hotwire Hotel List - Washington DC needs updates. Holiday inn is not there.

(I understand it is difficult to be up-to-date)

It's not that we're not keeping up-to-date, it's that this is the first time this hotel has been reported to the board thru HOTWIRE. We will add it to the Hotwire Hotel List now (less than 4 1/2 hours after it was first reported :) ). This hotel features the following amenities:

Laundry Facilities

But people says a pool is there but closed even in hot summer days.
