Priceline Hotel: Pittsburgh May 15 and 16 - Bids Failing

We've been trying to bid for a 2 night stay in Pittsburgh on Fri, May 15 and Sat, May 16. We've tried bidding 4* up to $125 and up to $100 on 3.5*.

Two questions:

1) Anyone know if there's something going on in town that weekend? Or is it just that we are asking for weekend nights?

2) We haven't seen the counter offers presented? Is there something we need to do to get that offer?

I believe that weekend is Carnegie Mellon University's graduation weekend... The hotels in Oakland and Downtown will probably either have their priceline/hotwire rates turned off for that weekend or if they still have them on, the rates will be a lot higher than normal. You should be able to get something reasonable in the surrounding area though... not sure if that's an option for you or not...

If you search HOTWIRE there is only one Downtown hotel offered for your dates, a 3* priced at nearly $400/nite!! which would imply that your bids above are probably, at the moment, not in the ballpark.

Do you have a back-up plan? Could you stay in one of the outlying zones?

On HOTWIRE I am showing what appears to be the Airport Marriott for 73 a night... not a bad deal for this property and this time period with easy access to the highway and free parking....
