cracker23 Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 i'm looking for a hotel in manhattan (midtown or central park area). it seems like all the rates on hotwire and priceline that i am seeing are much more expensive than some of the deals i've seen on here. is this time of year more expensive, or am i doing something wrong? thanks for any suggestions
thereuare Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 The NYC hotel market gets busy starting in Ocotober and then really picks up from Thanksgiving to just before Christmas. If you let us know your maximum bid and star level requirements we'll be happy to try to help with a suggested bidding strategy. cracker23 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Report Posted September 21, 2004 thanks for replying....my max would probably be around $220, and i would like to have at least a 3 star. is this unreasonable? do hotels "open up" closer to the date of your stay?
thereuare Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 It's not as easy as "do hotels drop prices at the last minute" as it all depends upon how actual occupancy levels compare to projected levels. Hotels are also very sensitive to dropping prices at the last minute as they want to encourage guests to book in advance... if they routinely dropped prices at the last minute everyone would be 'trained' to wait until the day before book, which would ultimately be bad for the hotels. You have two re-bid zones available when bidding 4*, one re-bid zone available when bidding 3*, if you're not familiar with re-bidding you can read this thread, PRICELINE REBIDDING EXPLAINED, and then ask any questions that you may have. This is how i would proceed:Select 4* MTE and...Bid $160, if rejected add MTW and...Bid $170, if rejected add UM/CPS and...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $200.If the above is rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and...Bid $160, if rejected add MTW and...Bid $170, if rejected add UM/CPS and...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $180.My gut is that the above bids are too low, but it's worth a shot since you have time before your stay to try again. I'd try the above and report back as to your success or failure (or if any counter-offers are given) and we'll take it from there.Good Luck, and if there are any questions regarding the above feel free to ask.
