Giltis Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 I have a room reserved in Rome Central for approx $160+tax. We do not want to spend much more, but we would love to upgrade to a 5 star hotel if it works out. I bid $150 followed by $160 3 days ago and followed up with $152 followed by $160 today. All bids were rejected, and I received a counter offer of $259 which we have zero interest in paying. Posting this more to inform others because I plan to keep trying lower rates as it gets closer because I have a 72 hour cancellation policy on my existing reservation. If anyone has had luck winning a 5 star hotel in Rome for under $200 per night (tax included), then please post and let me know your strategy. Thanks for everyone's help so far!
nwa747 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 Good luck I've been trying for 2 months almost every day. The best counter offer I got was $280 for 5/23-5/26
Giltis Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 NWA, thanks for the info. I bid $152 and $162 today and received a $259 counter offer. Obviously, I have no interest in that price, but I thought I would update everyone.
XT600 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 why a 5* Hotel?5*`Hotels are for customers who are willing to pay 500-800 USD/night plus every single task of any service personal extra!!As it seems you arenot the person who wants to pay for the extras, check for a nice 4* without surprises and enjoy Roma!! I'm sure you'll find a nice place what you can select by yourself in city centre for about 150-170 USD. If you prefer B&B check the cosy ones for 100 USD in Trastevere (you can reach all by foot) with its restaurants and nightlife :) Saluti Giovanni :)
