ajamil Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 good morning. love the site, think its a great way to better inform everyone on whats goin on.anyways, i'm trying to book a room in the city for the night of 9/27 (next monday).i went through all the bidding techniques, trying to get a 4-star room, and went up to 140 and couldnt get anything from midtown northwards.i looked on Hotels.com and it seems like a LOT of hotels are booked up already for this date. any reason for that? any ideas on what else i might try? thanks so much.ahmed
thereuare Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! <and thank you for the compiments on the site>With increased hotel demand, I don't think $140 will be enough for a 4* hotel for this time of year (i'd be doubtful $160 would currently be enough either). Hotels try to sell-out their properties as much as they can (some are more successful than others), so it's not unusual in a big city for a hotel to be sold-out with only a week to go before check-in.Your choices now are either:-wait it out-raise your bid-lower your star rating-find some other source to book a hotelDo you have a back-up reservation yet? I do believe you can be successful within your bidding limit for a 3* property, but i'm doubtful you can do so for a 4* this time of year.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and if with Priceline we'll suggest a bidding strategy to follow. ajamil Posted September 20, 2004 Author Report Posted September 20, 2004 HeySo I got ambitious and went up to $180 and followed the bidding guidelines, and ended up with all the midtown areas and the upper east and west sides, all on 4*, and no dice...I think I'm just going to go through my company's travel desk and book one of the hotels in Times Square for $199+tax. Seems like knowing where I'm staying will offset any difference I might have found. Thanks for the help though... I'll post which hotels they say have vacancies.AhmedGo Blue... talk about wretched offense so far this year...
thereuare Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I would recommend going with the 3.5* on Hotwire for $132 which i believe to be the Sheraton Manhattan. REVIEWS are 'ok', location is great, and i suspect for one nite it'll be more than fine.Save the $60 and spend it elsewhere in the city.Don't get me started on football... i expected great things from Gutierrez who they simply state has a 'soar arm'... i suspect it's more than that if he misses a third week! :) GO BLUE! mr.drew Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Also, at quickbook.com, for that night there is:Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel for $149Quality Hotel on Broadway for $149Gershwin Hotel for $137Best Western President for $149Quality Hotel Times Square for $132Sheraton Suites on the Hudson for $148Also a couple others, but they don't look so good...Good luck!
thereuare Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Are any of those really a viable alternative to a Sheraton? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
