wjcassidy Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I am going to Boston 5/7-10 and am hoping for a 3 1/2 star hotel in the Copley /Back Bay area. I want to use Priceline and I am fairly experienced but have not really used the re-bidding strategy, as I am a little nervous about getting stuck in an area I don't want. It does seem that the Fenway area only has 1 star hotels, so I think I might be able to use that as a free re-bid zone. Could someone please advise me on a strategy and I promise to post my results!I started this morning, and bid 65 for a 3 1/2 but was rejected. I do have a little time. Also , anybody have any advice about lo cost parking options? I wouldn't mind walking a few block to the hotel if it saves me some money.THANKS!!
thereuare Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I want to use Priceline and I am fairly experienced...Yet this is your first post and no reported wins to the board since joinging nearly 2 years ago :)I started this morning, and bid 65 for a 3 1/2 but was rejectedIt would be appreciated if you used the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding. You need to know how to check your re-bid zones on your own since they can change at any time (ie- between the time we post and the time you bid) so they need to be checked before you begin every bidding cycle. You can learn the correct way to determine your re-bid zones here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedPlease read the above link and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. You currently have FOUR re-bid zones avaialble when bidding 3.5* in the Boston area. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. wjcassidy Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 I do apologize for being remiss, but I do appreciate the help and I PROMISE to do better with posting and using the links. So am I correct in this strategy? As of now, the re-bid zones are, Fenway, Brighton, Medford and South Boston. SO I can rebid and raise my price by adding those zones, one at a time, since they don't have any 3.5 star hotels? It makes sense to me , I am just a first timer with re-biddingShould there be any particular order that I add the other zones?
wjcassidy Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 HMM. So Here is what I did, with no success. 80- rejectedadded fenway85- rejected, added medford90- rejected.I am surprised since I am seeing wins much lower. Am I doing something wrong?
thereuare Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Yes, you have you re-bid zones correct, but you could also use the "permutation" method in order to get more bids than you did and continue to bid, of you're ultimately willing to bid more than $90... or is that your maximum bid for this stay at the moment? Also, rates are date specific, so you won't necessarily be able to replicate somebody elses win for your own stay when their dates are different than your own. Also, there is no "Back Bay" zone on PRICELINE, what is the name of the zone (as per PRICELINE) that you're bidding? Are there are other zone(s) you're willing to consider? (if you're bidding Copley zone... could you make the Quincy Market zone work for your needs as well?)Let usk now your maximum bid and regarding the zones and we'll advise accordingly. sleepless2 Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 See my post right after you for both the permutation to use and the pricing - the 3.5* hotels are expensive for those dates for some reason - I stopped bidding at $80 and got a 4* instead at Copley for $105. I'm a bit surprised they didn't accept at $90 or at least tell you how much more to bid - they offered to take $102 when I bid $80."Back Bay" is the locals name for the "Copley - Theatre" district that PRICELINE uses. Note that I called Medford-Somerville just Somerville.
wjcassidy Posted May 1, 2009 Author Report Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks , that info is helpful. I think I will use a similar strategy and bite the bullet and go up to around 100$, staying in Copley. It is weird, sometimes I think Priceline gets annoyed at me! Is that possible?I will post my progress.
wjcassidy Posted May 1, 2009 Author Report Posted May 1, 2009 It worked! Here's what I didI decided that I would try for a 4 star.4* Copley 101rejected, but offered to take 22 more, attempted to up to 105 but was not permitted to do thatso I closed out, re-opened the PRICELINE Link here on BBidding4* Copley, Fenway- 105ACCEPTED -THE FAIRMONT COPLEY PLAZAHotel looks magnificent! I am very happy with it and with the price. Thanks everyone for the help
