Last week I started bidding at $95 for 5/8 in 4* category and rebid in $5 increments. First zone CSP, then MTW, and then MTE--

Grand Hyatt/ Accepted at $105.

For three days after, I bid more or less the same pricing strategy in 4* category for 5/7 but no takers. I stopped at $120.

On the fifth day I started at $120 for 5/7 in same 4* category and rebid in $5 increments. First zone CSP and then MTW--

Hilton Ave of Americas/Accepted at $125.

Three days ago I started bidding at $99 for 5/9 in 4* category using my past strategy. First zone CSP, then MTW and then MTE--

Grand Hyatt/Accepted at $105 again!!........ I was a little flumoxed because even though I know it was a good price, I was hoping to try a different hotel each night of my four day stay in New York - same star level, to get an impression of how they compared........

For three days I again bid for my final date 5/6 starting at $110 for a 4*- same zones- going up to $125- no takers!

Just now I resumed bidding at $121 for 5/6 in 4* category. First zone CSP,then MTW, and then MTE---

GRAND HYATT/ACCEPTED AGAIN!!!!at $125.

From what I gather the day-to-day inventory of rooms for a given zone and star level fluctuate. Past success(es) is/are no guarantee of obtaining a comparable star hotel for the same price in a different zone the next day.

Bid through the better bidding PRICELINE link.

Have questions- Who is accepting the offer(s)? The hotels, or Priceline. Does Priceline buy a block of rooms like a consolidator and try to get the best price for itself. Or are they just acting as an agent for the hotels who are offering a block of rooms for a minimum price and any sale of a room resulting in a difference over that price Priceline gets a % in addition to its fee? Or does Priceline just accept a bid at that minimum price if it is offered?...Thanks....boxer

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your win(s) and thank you for sharing them with the board.

Please only post one win per thread... this allows us to show the details of each win in the topic title of the thread as well as enable each win to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.

We have edited the topic title fo this thread to reflect your win of the Grand Hyatt for 5/8-5/10 (yeah, we used one thread for these two wins since they're for consecutive stays and the same hotel was won at the same price)... please start a NEW TOPIC for each of your other wins (ie- the 5/6 Grand Hyatt win and the 5/7 Hilton win)

As for as backend procedure, the hotels enter rates into a system which can only be 'seen' by PRICELINE... they take your bid amount and see if any hotel at that star level (or higher) has loaded a rate which meets your bid price. If so, they immediately purchase the hotel and you are then given the details of your stay.
