Priceline Hotel: 4* Newark (Jersey City) Westin

Hi,

New to this forum and also to Priceline, so apologies if these seem like obvious questions.

Having done some research, it seems that staying in Jersey City would be a viable option since I'd likely have a more spacious room, and a little more for my money. I'm looking to get a double room for 5/21 - 5/26 for a trip to NYC for under $100 per night.

The Hyatt and Westin both look like fairly decent hotels, and if I have calculated correctly: a bid on Priceline for 4* in Newark - Meadowlands (Jersey City), these would be the 2 possible hotels - is that correct? (Unless of course I get a new hotel previously not rated in this category of course.)

From the calendar of wins it looks as though a bid of around $70 secures the Hyatt, and $85 for the Westin. What would be the best strategy for me to take to obtain either of these hotels at the best rate?

Is one of these hotels particularly better than the other - what are the pros & cons?

Many thanks in advance for any help on this one. :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The Westin and Hyatt are the only two "known" 4* hotels in this zone... the W Hoboken recently opened and has not yet been reported to the board, but that may be another possibility but it's unknown if they're participating with the opaque suppliers or not (i'm hoping they do!)

Both the Hyatt and Westin are great hotels... they Hyatt has great views of the city and is just step steps from the PATH train, although the PATH stop makes it easier to get to Downtown than midtown. The Westin brand new (3+ months old) and is more like a 2 block walk to the PATH station (although a different station than the Hyatt) which is a slightly longer trip but makes it easier to get to midtown. The Westin is also closer to a shopping mall, supermarket, as well as a few restaurants.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either, and too much of a discussion as to which one you should want is a moot point since you can't choose which one you will receive thru PRICELINE... your analysis of "$70 will get me the Hyatt and $85 will get me the Westin" is a bit too simplistic and you're not going to be able to target either of these properties unless you're willing to risk an overbid for the Hyatt.

If you still want to move forward, you have SIX re-bid zones when bidding 4* in Jersey City. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.
