beaches Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 new to better bidding.booked 4* at grand hyatt new york on 4/23/09 for $130/n. dates of stay 5/16/09-5/20/09 through PRICELINE link. started at $120 for 4 *mte and mtw and bumped bid by $5 dollars for 2 free rebids before accepted.it worked great, however i was hoping to get 2 beds or rollaway for 3 people.called and was told not possible. i guess i didnt read all faqs regarding this issue in new york city.any success with upcharges at grand hyatt to get 2 beds or rollaway?
AaronJB Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Priceline does not guarantee 2 beds in general, which I believe is noted during the bidding process. I would call Hyatt's main customer service line and be polite and plead your case and see what they say. You may get someone who puts in 2 beds as a *request*, meaning that the hotel will see if the request can be granted on the day, at check-in. It doesn't appear to me that this hotel charges more for 2 beds than 1 bed, so wouldn't be an upcharge situation.Thank you for posting your win. For future purchases, it would be greatly appreciated if you can use the site's PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. Enjoy your stay, and hopefully the bed issue will be worked out.
beaches Posted April 25, 2009 Author Report Posted April 25, 2009 i did use the sites PRICELINE link. i will contact the main hyatt customer service line and plead my case. thanks.beaches.
thereuare Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 This property has usually been pretty good in granting bedding type requests and generally has very good customer service... the hotel may have high occupancy for these dates or you may have just caught a front desk clerk that was very busy with guests at the counter at the time (or just having an off day).I would try calling again, but as noted above, PRICELINE can be a risky proposition in NYC when you have more than double occupancy. As an FYI in the future, and for anyone following along, HOTWIRE is still an option when you have more than double occupancy as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy (search for triple/quad occupancy can also be used when you are double occupancy but need to guarantee separate beds)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Let us know how you make out with your next phone call request for two beds. beaches Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 called the hyatt again and identified myself as a hyatt gold passport member, which i am, to plead my case. this time, the desk clerk was more accomodating and stated that he would put in for a 2 bed request. though not guaranteed.hopefully, all goes well.thanks again.
thereuare Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Let us know how it ultimately goes... but in my experience this property has been very accomodating when there is availability. Sounds like you may have just gotten a front desk clerk who was in a bad mood when you called the first time.Enjoy your stay. beaches Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 ended up with 2 double beds. initially told that they were overbooked for the first night but would be able to get 2 beds for remainder of stay. again identified myself as grand hyatt gold passport member, which is free to join, and pleaded for 2 beds for 4 adults. front desk clerk showed mercy and gave 2 beds for entire stay.thanks for the help.
thereuare Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 Glad to hear it all worked out well... but a good example of how bidding for quad occupancy in NYC could potentially not work out.Hope you enjoyed your time in NYC.
