denovo Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 HelloI've been looking for hotels in the Atlanta Buckhead area because my wife is going up to Emory next week. Are there other areas that might be close by?Thus far the best deal seems to be a 3 star on Hotwire for $47/night in the Buckhead area. Anyone know what brand/chain typically one gets in the Buckhead area for that 3 star rating in the Buckhead aread. I hear Hotwire ratings might be inflated. Thanks much.Charles
thereuare Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you look at the 'see map' link next to the Buckhead area, it will show you a close-up view of the zone. Directly underneith the Buckhead zone (on the map, not in the list) is the (Virginia Highlands - Emory) zone. Don't know which is better for where you need to be, but something to look at a little deeper. For help identifiying hotels, please include the date(s) of your stay as well as the star rating and amenities that Hotwire associates with it.Thanks. thereuare Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Unfortunately this property has not yet been identified.Have you considered trying Priceline for this stay or are there certainly amenities (like the pool) that you want to make sure are included? If you'd like to try Priceline we'll be happy to provide a suggested strategy to follow in an attempt to beat this $47 price. Do you currently have an back-up reservation? denovo Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 HiYes, we currently have a backup reservation. I last bid on Priceline Weds AM for a 3 star at $40. Was rejected. I chose the Buckhead region only. I am considering extending the zones to Decatur/Northlake. I think it might be close enough. Any suggestions would be welcome.ThanksCharles
thereuare Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Where, and how much, is your back-up reservation? Is your maximum bid $47 as you would then take the 3* above? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
denovo Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 The backup reservation is the Days Inn Buckhead on Clairmont for $43/night. I think I'll bid $45-47/night for a hotel on Priceline.ThanksCharles
thereuare Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 One would think with so many zones in the area you would have some re-bid opportunities, yet there are none when bidding for 3*.This is how i would proceed:Bid $43 for 3* Buckhead area, if rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Bid $43 for 3* Decatur/Northlake, if rejected add Buckhead area and bid $47.If the above is rejected i would probably also try for 2.5* as i think you'll likely end up with a better property then the Days Inn. If you wanted to do taht i would use the following bid amounts:Bid $33 for 2.5* Buckhead area, if rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Bid $33 for 2.5* Decatur/Northlake, if rejected add Buckhead area and bid $37.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. denovo Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 HiThanks for the strategy and PM. We decided to take the Hotwire $47 deal. The property is the Holiday Inn Atlanta Central/N Druid Hills. We were also extremely lucky in that it's real close to Emory. About 10-15 mins. Parking is also free. They will shuttle my wife to the Uni. if necessary. Bonus! Here is a link for the hotel site. Apparently it's also newly renovated. Anybody know anything else about the property. Is it fairly safe?Holiday Inn Atlanta CentralThanks for your help.Charles
thereuare Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Thanks for the follow-up and enabling us to now add the Holiday Inn to our lists! Here is ONE COMMENT about this property (and it's so good one would think it was written by the owner! :) ) Apparently there is free internet access too! Please feel free to add your own comments to our HOTEL REVIEWS section... and if you really have time on your hands while your wife is at the University you can take some digital photos to add to our new site Real Hotel Photos. :) Thanks again for the reported win and enjoy your stay. denovo Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 Oh. forgot to mention. I bid $45 for the Buckhead area in Priceline and was rejected before I took the Hotline deal. I can't imagine why $45 for a 3 star was rejected. Also, some folks on Priceline don't feel this hotel should be included in the Buckhead area. For us the location worked, but if you're a Hotwire or Priceline bidder this hotel might not fulfill your Buckhead location criteria.Best,Charles
