L4ibsch Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 Upon checkout, they charged me some surprise tax of 9
Cansunseeker Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I there 2 years ago over the Christmas holiday and we were never charged an extra fee.... Was it a Paris occupancy tax ?
thereuare Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 It's hard to say if this was an appropriate charge without knowing the type of tax it was or an explanation of the fee. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. L4ibsch Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 It is labelled as a "city tax" (including VAT, though) and was levelled per person per night. It smells of something like a PRICELINE tax to me, especially since the woman at checkout couldn't stress enough that people booking direct don't have to pay it.
thereuare Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 PRICELINE's system can only accept one tax rate, so it's possible that those booking direct already have paid it as it was added to their total charges when they booked... whereas PRICELINE doesn't have a way to include it in the total, so customers have to pay it directly to the hotel upon check-out.
