JulesBo Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Visiting with our 4 & 2 year-olds, tips welcome, please! Attending a wedding in the outer burbs on Saturday, wanted to stay in the city the first night. The plan is to go out for dinner 5:00'ish Thursday then maybe stroll around a bit, back to the room by 8 pm for kids' bedtime. Saturday maybe do the zoo or a museum.Very pleased with the result, although admittedly I hoped for a $57 The Avenue stay, seeing recent results. Apparently there's a big convention in town, though. Started at $52, added Lincoln to $57, O'Hare S to $62, Skokie to $67 then Midway to $72 and my $72 bid was accepted. Hooray!I used your PRICELINE link, thank you for all that you do!
AaronJB Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Thank you for posting your win, and glad that the site could be of help. Additionally, using the site's PRICELINE link is also greatly appreciated.A few tips:I would generally say forget Navy Pier, but the Children's Museum is there. If you do head to Navy Pier (which is not far from your hotel) I wouldn't devote too much time to it aside from the museum. The Zoo is free, and the Peggy Notabert Nature Center (admission) is a block North of the North End of the Zoo. Those are two things that can be combined quite easily. The Notabert has a live butterfly exhibit and a series of mostly "family-friendly" nature exhibits. It's a beautiful - and slightly futuristic looking - building. The Lincoln Park Conservatory (great flower shows) is also right next to the North Gate of the zoo, and that is also free.If the weather is good, I'd recommend going with the Zoo/Nature Center combo. If the weather is not good, you could always go to the Shedd Aquarium or the Field Museum (both the Shedd and Field are next to each other.)Not sure what burb the wedding is in, but another family-friendly activity is a tour of the candy factory Long Grove Confectionery in Buffalo Grove, IL. http://www.longgrove.com/acatalog/Factory_Tours.htmlFox and Obel Market and Cafe (Fox-obel.com) is a block East of your hotel on the corner of Illinois and McClurg, and offers a great breakfast/lunch/dinner, as well as gourmet treats in the market area.
