Looked at the bids and noticed the 3* downtown was going for 56 so decided to give 50 bucks a shot. I am going for a wedding and really love Downtown Denver and did not want to stay at the wedding hotel which was a 2* for 59 bucks near the airport.

Rooms were going for 107.00 a night at this hotel during my stay.

OK..... Just returned from lovely Denver. Awesome City! The weather was great and I had a blast catching up with old friends.

Now......

The Sheraton over sold the hotel and walked me. They initially tried to send me 20 miles away to Sheraton Four points but I would not have that so they "walked" me to the Crown Plaza across the street. I was fine with that and the breakfast buffet (14 bucks) at the Crown Plaza was good. The breakfast and free parking that Sheraton paid for made up for my inconvenience.

Did you still end up paying for the room nite?

"Standard" walking policy is that the first room nite is free/refunded and cab fare (not applicable i this situation) to the 'new' location... then you either return to the original hotel for the balance of your stay or can cancel without penalty and book someplace else (presumably the hotel you got walked to) on your own.

Glad you didn't mind too much... where did you end up the second nite, did you stay at the Crowne Plaza or return to the Sheraton?

The did not refund me anything.

They initially offered me to come back to the Sheraton for the 2nd night but I wasn't up for the hassel of moving with having to get ready for a wedding and asked them to book me for 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza. They agreed and I let it go. I wish I had known about the "Standard" walking policy. I sure would have asked for the free room night!

You can complain to Starwood via their website (spg.com or starwoodhotels.com) and see what they say. They've been pretty responsive when I've voiced concerns about a couple of stays in the past. I can't believe they tried to send you to a Four Points 20 miles away.

It's up to you how you'd like to proceed, but considering they paid for both nites at the Crowne Plaza (not standard policy and almost unheard of) and didn't make you return to the Sheraton or incurr any extra room charges for the 2nd nite at the Crowne Plaza, i think it's a "fair" settlement.

I really did enjoy my stay at the Crown Plaza. Staying downtown in a decent hotel was my only requirement. Shoot, It was so nice in Denver this past weekend I hardly saw the room anyway. :)

Because some guests won't complain, will accept what is offered, and it keeps the guest "in house" since both chains are own by the same parent :) By sending you to the Crowne Plaza they likely lost money (especially since they put you up there a second nite)
