charlestonemt Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Looking at this forum, it doesn't look like any areas of Edinburgh have anything less than 4* hotels which have been reported. Is this still correct? What happens if I select 3* or below on a priceline search for Edinburgh?I was hoping to get a room at H.I. Express on Royal Mile. It is listed for a decent price on Hotwire, but I was hoping to narrow it down and bid a little lower on Priceline.
Romelle Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 If Priceline lets you select and bid at the 3* level, that means there are 3* rooms available even though no one has reported winning them here. If you look at the retail (direct purchase) side of PL, the 3* offerings there are at least indicative of what might be won through bidding. Not a perfect correlation, but it will give you a pretty fair idea as to what could be won.You might also keep an eye on the star ratings for PL vs Hotwire. I see on the retail side that PL has two Edinburgh Express HI's and both are rated 2*. You didn't mention how Hotwire rates the Express HI it is offering?Romelle
charlestonemt Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 Hotwire rates the HI Express as 3* I think I might just book it from HOTWIRE to guarantee I get it. It's a relatively new hotel w/ breakfast included and I don't want to get stuck with some random nasty hotel if I take a chance w/ PRICELINE.

Rhine-and-Roses Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 I'd be really careful about bidding on a 3* in Edinburgh. Even 4*s in Edinburgh can be nasty. Scottish hotels don't always keep the same standards you find elsewhere. Even some of the big chains that would normally be "safe" are at a much lower standard. THis is from my personal experience in Glasgow and Edinburgh, however I have not been to either in two years.
Romelle Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Many people have reported here when getting Edinburgh hotels via either via PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. But I don't see any reviews? I looked under Edinburgh, Scotland and United Kingdom but struck out totally. Unless I'm missing something, there aren't any reviews yet for Scotland hotels??Maybe some of you will be so kind as to provide some reviews for this and other future bidders? Romelle
Rhine-and-Roses Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 Sorry- I did not reserve any rooms in Scotland via BetterBidding as it was before I found this site, before I started using Priceline/Hotwire. In Edinburgh we stayed at a Marriott, and in Glasgow at a Hilton. (Could have been the other way around.) If you are just looking for reviews on the hotels, not prices via Priceline, check out TripAdvisor.
