disfan168 Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 I was bidding for a 4* hotel in Melbourne, Australia; failed at $88; then got Mercure Welcome Melbourne @ $91.I was shocked and disappointed. Although this hotel was shown as 4* on Priceline, all other websites such as Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com, travel.yahoo.com, sidestep, bookit, tripadvisor, etc. say it is 3-3.5 star; even the hotel's own website say it's a 3.5 star. So I called PRICELINE and asked for a refund; the first representative refused to make any corrections to the matter, but a second representative agreed to look into the issue.Several days later, I noticed that Mercure Welcome was reduced to 3* from 4* at priceline's website, so I called PRICELINE again and got a full refund.Hope my experience can help someone.

disfan168 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 Looking at Priceline's vacation packages in Melbourne, it looks like there are still other miscategorized 4* hotels (mostly from the Mercure chain):- The Crossley Hotel- Mercure Hotel Melbourne- The Swanston Hotel MelbourneSo probably not a good idea to rebid for a 4* in Melbourne now.
