Hello Everyone

I am looking for a bit of help to find a room in New York from 30th June - 3rd of July.

I am aware it is pretty close to Independence Day so that may push the price up a bit but I am wondering what a realistic starting point would be for a 3 star hotel. I don't really care where in New York it is and it is only for one person.

Also, is it best to do the bidding now or in a month or so, closer to the time I am going?

Finally, the price is definitely per room and not per person? I see some amazingly good prices on this site and can't quite believe they are per room, being a lone traveller can be an expensice business!

Thanks for your time.

It's hard to give you any advice when the board don't know your budget, zone you would like to stay in and your prefered star rating for your hotel. Can you please post some additional information.

Please start withreading this link: Should i Bid Early or Close to Arrival Date

Price is per room.

Dates are rate sensitive. So the past or future rates is not the same for your stay.

You can also look at HOTWIRE. It's a good indicator for prices. Search for your dates and HOTWIRE will give you a clue what you can expect. But PRICELINE is usally cheaper.

Hope this helps to start with.

Start by letting us know your maximum budget as that will determine if your goal of staying directly in Manhattan is realistic or not.

Usually, the July 4th holiday has not been too much of a factor in driving up hotel rates.

As mentioned, budget plays a factor and - to make specific recommendations - we have to know what you are looking to spend. However, keep in mind that the differences between prices for a star rating in NYC is not always that much. To use an example (this is not what I would recommend, just using an example), if the board suggested that an appropriate bid for a 3* would be $90 and an appropriate bid for a 4* would be $110, are you looking for the cheaper stay or would you be interested in paying a bit more for the possibility of a 4*?

Waiting to bid or not is like rolling the dice in Vegas. You have to research regular rates for your dates and then gauge what kind of discounts are being offered on HOTWIRE, while also keeping in mind what is realistic. HOTWIRE can give you an *idea* of what may be an appropriate bid on PRICELINE.

If you choose to wait to make a purchase, you take the risk that bookings can start to ramp up for your dates, and prices will ramp up, as well.
