thereuare Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! Can you clarify which of the zones (Long Beach, Long Beach Airport, Torrance, or San Pedro) this hotel is in... it should say so on your bid confirmation screen. If you can't find it please provide the address of the hotel and i'll figure it out.Looks like you were upgraded to a 3* property! :) Two suggestions i would make on future bids:1) Bid one zone at a time... gradually increasing your price.2) When you lower your star rating... you should lower your price (not raise it as you had done... fortunately you were upgraded in this instance). This is further discussed in this thread: If You Lower Your Star Rating... Lower Your Price. If you have any questions or need clarification on my comments above feel free to ask.Thank you for reporting your win and enjoy your stay. yerrago Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 This hotel is in the Torrance-Carson zone.I guess my thought was that they didn't have any 2* hotels and would upgrade me for the right price. I was hoping to get Guesthouse Longbeach 2 1/2* and hope I can get their room with a jacuzzi. As it turns out, they gave me the Hilton. Actually a bummer since I have to pay parking for these hotels.I guess my strategy wasn't to get to get the highest star for the lowest price, but to try to get a lower * hotel I wanted. That strategy apparently didn't work this time. This strategy works for me as long as there isn't a terribly bad hotel that they'll put me in when I angle for a lower star. I learned my lesson the hard way when I got the Furama Hotel in the LAX zone, which was a 2* hotel that wasn't at all to my liking, to put it nicely. However, I should try the strategy of zones, hope to get higher stars, yet plan way ahead my bids so I can get low prices to compensate for the parking surcharge higher star hotels like to charge. Thanks for your comments.
