nzf81 Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 HI Im new to the Board and new to PricelineI bid 100 on a 5* in Vegas Strip for Nov 20th-Nov 24th. and I heard from a friend that it always comes up Venetian. They rejected my bid and gave me the option of the room for 130 which i took and it was the Venetian.Did I do this to early should I have waited a couple of more weeks? Could I have gotten a better rate in a month? Also why doesnt the Bellagio or other 5* hotels ever come up it seems to always be the Venetian. Also Im renting a car any genral tips for using priceline and I am under 25 so that might be a problem?Love the board and the advice Thanks
thereuare Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding!Thank you for sharing your winning bid with the rest of the board. The Venetian is the only known 5* hotel to be reported via Priceline. Not all hotels participate with Priceline (or Hotwire) so these other properties may have elected not to offer inventory to Priceline or Hotwire.Priceline offering you the ability to bid again immediately (without changing any parameters of your bid except the price) is what we refer to as a counter-offer, and they can almost always be under-cut. You can read this thread for more details: PRICELINE COUNTER OFFERS.Are you planning any off-strip and outside of downtown las vegas traveling? If not, i'd re-think your car rental decision.... i have never needed (nor missed not having) a car in Vegas. On the otherhand if you plan on going outside the strip and downtown areas you'll need one. If you need a car please ask for help in the CAR RENTAL section of the board. You can also use our CAR RENTAL RATE CHECKER to get a quick overview of rates from the 3 major online agencies. You'll lover the Venetian and i have posted some pictures of the property at REAL HOTEL PHOTOS. nzf81 Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 Thanks! I appreciate the welcome and the response. So I should have waited the 72 hours. Ill know for next time.Is there anyway that someone can cancel the rate? or are you stuck with it no matter what? How many 72 hour periods do they give you? Is there a limit on # of times u can bid?Is it possible to bid again within the 72 hours?Sorry for all the questions Im just new to this and curious! Thanks
thereuare Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 You have an unlimited number of 72 hour periods... until your check-in date. You can get around this 72 hour rule by using re-bid zones... for which there are many when bidding 5* in the Las Vegas region. This strategy is explained here: PRICELINE BIDDING AGAIN BEFORE 72 HOURS.As per Priceline's terms your bid is non-refundable, non-cancellable, non-transferable, and non-changable. need bargain Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 FYI re future Vegas travel.I stayed at the Venetian earlier this summer and called their hotel directly. Somehow their customer service rep offered me a rate of $119 for a 4-night stay, but made clear this was a "special rate" only for prepaid reservations. It could not be canceled but the dates could be moved if there was an illness. And there were no additional fees like Priceline charges, so keep it in mind.I did, however, use Priceline to add an additional night. The lowest rate that the Venetian would only offer for our last night was $209, I think). I got it for $109 by doing the free rebids as suggested. I also used Priceline to get a room for the Memorial Day weekend -- we got the Marriott Residence Inn -- 2.5* -- for $55. True, the Residence Inn was no match for the Venetian, but for $55 during Memorial Day weekend it was a great deal, large room and very clean. Just a block and a half away from the Strip. As for renting a car, do you prefer the freedom of having a car? It does saves money if you plan to take cabs. It also saves time you'd use up in walking from one end of the strip to the other. And besides, Valet parking is free (although tipping is only polite) and there's lots of self-parking available if you prefer. But if none of those are concerns then don't rent a car. Or only get one for days you plan to drive downtown, but there are buses going there, or if you want to drive to Hoover Dam or Red Rock, both trips worth taking.
thereuare Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Need Bargain,Welcome to BetterBidding and thank you for your comments and advice.Often when the Venetian offers their $119/nite rate it can often be had on Priceline for under $100/nite. Please list your Venetian and Residence Inn wins as new threads (a separate one for each) so that users will easily be able to see the pertinent details of your wins just by scanning the thread titles.Thanks. need bargain Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Thanks, I'll do that, but does it matter that this transpired in the summer, several months ago?And I did initially try bidding for a 5* for those dates through Priceline at $99-$105 but did not have any luck. The Venetian was initially offering their "lowest" rates at $169 through their website and over the phone for those nights and when I thanked them and was about to hang up, they volunteered the lower non-refundable rates out of the blue.
nzf81 Posted November 30, 2004 Author Report Posted November 30, 2004 I just got back from Vegas and here
