AaronJB Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 The Mag Mile is a possible match for the Sheraton, while the NMA is a possible match for the Avenue. For the kids: I'd highly recommend a combination of the Lincoln Park Zoo (free) plus the nearby Peggy Notabert Nature Center (admission). The Notabert has a great live butterfly exhibit. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase. If you are driving to Minneapolis - which appears to be your next destination - I'd recommend stopping at the long grove confectionary (longgrove.com) for some treats on the way North.
SallyUK Posted April 18, 2009 Author Report Posted April 18, 2009 Will keep watching as these prices are similar to 'normal' web sites prices at present...hope they come down a little!
AaronJB Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 While you can wait and hopefully prices will come down, keep in mind that there is the possibility that prices can go the other way, as well. The suburban areas around Chicago are really nice, and quite a bit cheaper in terms of hotels, but for 2 days, I'd recommend staying downtown.
thereuare Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Will keep watching as these prices are similar to 'normal' web sites prices at present...hope they come down a little! What prices are/were you seeing for the above??I'm no longer seeing a 4* hotel in the NMA zone when searching for 2adults/2children, but the 4* Mag Mile hotel is priced at ~$90, while the Sheraton's website is currently twice that at $179/nite.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. SallyUK Posted April 21, 2009 Author Report Posted April 21, 2009 We are still undecided as to where to base ourselves! My husband & eldest Son are going to a soccer match at Toyota Park whilst we are in Chicago so we are now thinking of staying outside of Chicago.Am i right in thinking Toyota Park is in Bridgeview area? What hotels should we be looking at?We fly into Midway on 18th Aug & will be driving on to Minneapolis sometime on 20th Aug. The soccer match is at 8pm on 19th!Are the hotels at Midway close to Bridgeview? I presume it is stil easy enough to drive to downtown?Any advice gratefully received!Sally
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Midway is fine from a hotel standpoint - there are a fair amount of hotels in the area (although they seem rather expensive at times.) Midway is not fine from a "things to do" standpoint - there's really not much around Midway aside from Midway and it's not the best area. For an area with both things to do and a great selection of hotels, I'd recommend Oak Brook/Downers Grove, two SW suburbs. There are very few hotels *right* outside of Chicago - you have to go a ways outside the city before you start seeing more hotels again.
SallyUK Posted April 21, 2009 Author Report Posted April 21, 2009 Would Oak Brook/Downers grove be easy to get to from Midway & To/From Toyota Park?Wherever we stay, we will be travelling to other areas for something to do, such as Downtown. As we will only really have one full day I think staying in a suburb will be fine but I just dont know where?!Sorry for all the questions!
SallyUK Posted April 21, 2009 Author Report Posted April 21, 2009 Just answered my own question..Got directions & its about 30mins drive to either toyota or Downtown so thats fine! Will look on Hotwire for Oak brook/downers hotels!
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Additionally, you can take the Metra Train (Metrarail.com) from stations out that way (Oak Brook/Downers Grove) to downtown. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links. Additionally, please ask if you have any questions. The Brookfield Zoo would also be not too far from Oakbrook/Downers Grove.

SallyUK Posted April 22, 2009 Author Report Posted April 22, 2009 This would likely be the Westin Lombard. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link.Just booked The Westin Lombard $72 per night..Bargain!Many Thanks for all your help-I will be back again as we still need other hotels for our trip!
AaronJB Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Glad the site could be of help. Thank you for posting your win and using the site's HOTWIRE link. This is a terrific deal, as the lowest refundable rate on the hotel website is $199. The Yorktown Shopping Center is also right there, too. (http://www.yorktowncenter.com/)The Yorktown Shopping Center appears to have a Flat Top Grill, which is a "make your own stir-fry" restaurant chain that I recommend. (http://www.flattopgrill.com/menu.html)If you want to take the Metra train downtown, this the closest station:http://www.metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_w/lombard.shtml
