In a bit of a rush to book a hotel ni London - lavishly want a %* in Mayfair

Unless you accept the counter-offer there is no way of re-bidding for the same zone and star rating. You need to either lower your star rating or add an extra zone.

However, there may be zones in which a 5* hotel is not offered, so in a sense you are getting a free re-bid on the hotel that you want. As an example...I notice that the Bloomsbury - Marble Arch zone does not currently offer the option to bid on a 5* hotel

I highly recommend you read this thread Bidding again before 24hours to get an understanding of how the re-bidding process works. You should really understand how PRICELINE works before we go ahead and suggest a strategy to get that hotel.

Additionally, it's also worth looking at HOTWIRE for last minute ideas, as well - while not as heavily discounted as PRICELINE, it is another discounted option to consider.

Your "Free" rebid zones are areas where there the maximum star level is lower than 5* That is:

1) Bloomsbury - Marble Arch)

2) Finsbury-Islington

3) Hammersmith

4) Nottinghill-Bayswater

5) The City and London bridge

This gives you a multitude of free rebids.

For simplicity we'll say you have 5. (there are actually 32, trust me!)
