I have been lurking on here for a couple of days, and it seems like everyone knows so much, I thought you all may be willing to help out another newbie. I just tried priceline for the first time, and my bid was rejected.

I picked $33 because it seemed like a number people on here had pretty good luck with in that area. It offered me the $9 increase thing, but from what I've seen here, those are not generally the way to go. I didn't know what to do, so I said forget it and posted this. I really have my heart set on downtown, because I am going to the Improv that night, and am hoping to be within a couple of miles of it. I can start over in my fiancee's name if I need to. What steps should I follow? Thanks for reading!

You did good by not accepting their counter-offer... you can do better. :)

I assume this was for a 3* property? (if not, ignore the below and post back the star rating you were bidding for)

You can still bid again immediately by using your RE-BID ZONES. This is adding zones that only contain hotels rated lower than 3 stars. It is explained fully in the prior link, but to find out which zones contain which star levels:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.

When bidding 3* in Downtown Cleveland, there are three such re-bid zones. Feel free to confirm them with the board to avoid any mistakes if you're unsure of which ones they are.

Given your rejection at $33, this is how i would proceed:

Select 3* Downtown and re-bid zone#1, bid $35.

If rejected add re-bid zone#2 and bid $37.

If rejected add re-bid zone#3 and bid $39.

Given prices we've seen in the past i think you'll be successful with one of the above, but if not, you can always bid again in 72 hours (i'd rather try the lower prices first, which is why i didn't advise you bidding all the way up to $42 just yet).

For anyone who read my first post, I started over. First bid of $35 was rejected, so I added a zone and bid $38. I used SavingsBarn.com.
