SanAntoman Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Hello...Your website and tip links were just posted on the San Antonio Express News. I am attending a convention in San Juan, PR this summer, and the convention rates started off at $199... but due to the recent hard times, that rate was recently dropped to $150 a night.Obviously, I would like to dig to find the kind of deals the earlier San Juan/Hilton Caribe hunters found, as in the $75 a night range. I believe Hotwire has this listing at $114 a night. The problem is, the threads dealing with San Juan and the Caribe seem to be mainly from 2004. Do you have a suggestion on what kind of bid to make to try and secure the Caribe? I just want to avoid getting sucked into the Wyndham, to stay in the hotel where our convention is being held.Thanks...
yellowdog Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding :) Start with posting your dates for the stay.Do you have a suggestion on what kind of bid to make to try and secure the Caribe? I just want to avoid getting sucked into the Wyndham, to stay in the hotel where our convention is being held. You can't target a specif hotel on PRICELINE. If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.I would like to dig to find the kind of deals the earlier San Juan/Hilton Caribe hunters found, as in the $75 a night range. The problem is, the threads dealing with San Juan and the Caribe seem to be mainly from 2004Rates are date sensitive. So you can't look at rates this old. I believe Hotwire has this listing at $114 a night. If you need help to ID the hotel so please post the amenities for the hotel.Your website and tip links were just posted on the San Antonio Express NewsCan you please post a link.Hope this helps.Yellowdog.
SanAntoman Posted April 16, 2009 Author Report Posted April 16, 2009 OK... the dates I want to stay are from June 20-28 this summer. Hotwire's amenities list for the "4-star" hotel closely resembles that off the Caribe, if not exactly. Like I said, just trying to save money AND end up at the Caribe, and the hotwire price is cheaper than convention rate, but if there's more savings to be had on with a Priceline bid, I want to give it a shot...

AaronJB Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 If you're seeing a 4* for $101 on HOTWIRE and aren't staying until the Summer, you could start at $70 (probably unlikely, but you can try a lowball bid) and work your way up by $5's on PRICELINE. However, if you're seeking a specific hotel, PRICELINE's not a good choice, as a different hotel than the one you expect (possibly one that hasn't been reported to the board yet) can certainly appear.

I almost wonder if you were having the same problem I've had. For a while, I was looking at the "Join Date" on the left of a post which is of course when somebody became a member, rather than the "Post Date" at the top center of a post, and then thinking the posts were really old. ???Have you found the "Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins" yet? A link to it follows bright red "***NEW BOARD FEATURE". It can be pretty helpful. And if you haven't already done so, you might want to read through the FAQs and other information posted up top of this site.Romelle
thereuare Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Bottomline is that if you're trying to target a particular hotel than HOTWIRE is usually a better option than PRICELINE.Why don't you post the amenities that are associated with the hotel that you currently believe is the hotel you're trying to target (the Caribe Hilton) and we'll confirm that is what we too believe you're seeing. From there you can decide how much you'd need to save over the HOTWIRE rate to make receiving a different hotel in the zone worthwhile (given the size of this zone you may not be willing to risk receiving any different hotel, or perhaps for the right price you'd be willing to stay elsewhere). Also, is the conference a full 8 days? Perhaps you'd consider staying at the conference hotel for the dates of the conference, then changing hotels for the balance of your stay, where you can try bidding on PRICELINE for those additional nites. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
