Thank you for sharing your results with the board - terrific deal for a very nice Embassy Suites property. I'd highly recommend Fox and Obel Market and Cafe (fox-obel.com), which is about a half a block East of this hotel, on Illinois and McClurg.

Well this deal is not looking so good anymore. I called the hotel to find out what kind of bed configuration we have and turns out it's a smoking room. They said they would not consider any changes since it's a Hotwire booking. The Hotwire amenities for this room say "Smoke Free Rooms" but that doesn't mean you'll get one.

I would absolutely call HOTWIRE on that one ASAP and have them straighten things out with the hotel. If smoke-free is listed as an amenity, you are definitely supposed to be in a smoke-free room.

Let us know how it goes if you do call (and I would definitely recommend calling.)

I did more research and it looks like like the Hotwire information on this Embassy is incorrect. Hotwire lists the amenities in my booking as

Smoke Free Rooms

Guest rooms at this hotel are always smoke-free..

But if you go to the Embassy website you can book a smoking room.

I emailed Hotwire about my problem and they contacted the hotel. The email response from Hotwire implied that I already had a non-smoking room. I called the hotel back and confirmed that we do indeed now have a non-smoking room. So either the hotel mis-informed me the first time or Hotwire got it changed. In either case I am now satisfied.
