jdombeck Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 My area preferences in order are:Copley Square - Theater DistrictQuincy Market - Faneuil Hall - Financial DistrictFenway Park (This is new!)CambridgeBoston Waterfront - Convention CenterMy max price point is $150. My preference is 4+ star properties. I am able to bid literally up to a day or two before the trip. I realize this is graduation weekend for many schools so it will be more difficult. What do you think my best strategy is?Thanks!
yellowdog Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Current rates are high for your Copley Square and Quincy Market . Would HOTWIRE be an option for you? I took a look at your dates and found 4* within your budget in the Boston Waterfront + Cambridge zone. Please take a look and post back with your thoughts. If you still want to go by PRICELINE so please read this link:Priceline Re-Bidding Explained if you don't know how to use the diffrent zones.Yellowdog.
jdombeck Posted April 9, 2009 Author Report Posted April 9, 2009 Thanks for the Hotwire info. I am open to use Hotwire but when I visited just now I didn't find the deal you mentioned. Regarding Priceline, I was wondering if you thought my chances for finding a room would improve as I got closer to the actual travel dates.Thanks.
yellowdog Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 I am open to use Hotwire but when I visited just now I didn't find the deal you mentioned. How many rooms/adults/children did you search for?Regarding Priceline, I was wondering if you thought my chances for finding a room would improve as I got closer to the actual travel dates. There is no general answer to that :) . But please read this link: Should i Bid Early or Close to Arrival Date Yellowdog.
jdombeck Posted April 22, 2009 Author Report Posted April 22, 2009 For an upcoming trip I'd really like to get Copley, Financial or possibly Waterfront. However, I'm willing to include Logan but don't want to risk being too far out in the northern part of the area. According to the hotel list it would appear that the 4* hotels are near the airport. Do you think that if I included Logan for 4*, maybe 3.5* and higher bids I would be OK?
thereuare Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Is this for the same dates as your previous Priceline Boston thread? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jdombeck Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 Yes, this is for May 14th through May 19th.
thereuare Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. As per the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List the hotels found there are only those reported to the board, so you could be the first to reported a new 4* or 3.5* property in the Airport zone, one which you didn't count on and may be in the part of the zone you dont' wish to stay in... so it's a risk (which only you can decide of you're willing to take or not)Do you have a cacellable back-up reservation anywhere at this point? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jdombeck Posted May 1, 2009 Author Report Posted May 1, 2009 I was just bidding on Priceline and instead of receiving the usual "couldn't accept your bid, try changing options" screen I received a hotel search screen with the following header:"Thank You for Naming Your Own Price
thereuare Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 This happens and PRICELINE is simply cross-marketing between their "name your own price" and "retail" product. They know you need a room, and that your bid failed, so they refer you to the retail section to see if you'll buy something there. :)Thanks for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding. jdombeck Posted May 13, 2009 Author Report Posted May 13, 2009 Finally got it a few minutes ago! I've been trying daily for well over a month and appreciate the advice and help received here. I used the PRICELINE link here, of course, and got two rooms at the 4* Marriott Copley Place for 5/14 through 5/19 at a rate of $120 per night! The bidding strategy I used was:Bid 4* zone 1 at $90Rebid zone 7 at $95Rebid zone 4 at $100Rebid zone 3 at $105Rebid zone 8 at $110Rebid 3.5* & zone 2 at $120Rebid zone 5 at $130Rebid zone 6 at $140Rebid zone 9 at $150Of course I didn't have to go all the way since I pinned it at $120. Whew, glad that's finally over!
thereuare Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you persevered and were ultimately successful!Hope you're happy with the results and now looking forward to your stay.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Have a great trip!
