I'm heading to New Orleans at the end of May but have no idea about the various districts/areas on hotwire/priceline. Is it safe to assume that the best place for a tourist is the french quarter - what about the downtown/central business district areas - are these areas safe and will I get a good deal - I'm looking for budget accomodation and don't want to spend more than $50 a night. Any recommendations for some cheap lodging? Thanks

Any other tips on things to do/tors/eating/enetrtainment would be appreciated.
