orion1778 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Going to Las Vegas May 21st - 24th and am trying to figure out the ideal bidding strategy. Would like to stay on the strip, preferably toward the middle. I've put in a few feeler bids for 4* and higher in the 'north strip vicinity' but nothing so far. I don't have any problem moving hotels. My guess is that Thursday night would be the cheapest, followed by Friday and Saturday. The question is: do I continue bidding for all 3 nights? Make on bid for Thursday/Friday and another for Saturday? Or one for Thursday and another for Friday/Saturday?Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

thereuare Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Would like to stay on the strip, preferably toward the middle.Would you be willing to accept the Westin, which is slightly off-strip and/or the Trump, which is also slightyl off-strip?I've put in a few feeler bids for 4* and higher in the 'north strip vicinity' but nothing so far.How high have you bid already? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. orion1778 Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Would you be willing to accept the Westin, which is slightly off-strip and/or the Trump, which is also slightyl off-strip?Trump - acceptable. Westin - preferably, would not like to stay there for all three nights, but I would be willing to move there on Saturday in order to stay at a nicer place on Thursday/Friday.How high have you bid already? What is your maximum bid for this stay?I have only bid $65 so far and only in the 'strip north' area. I would be willing to bid up to $100 on PRICELINE before looking elsewhere.
thereuare Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 As there has only been one 4* hotel reported in the North Strip zone this is a tough win since, as far as we know, you're essentially bidding on just onte hotel (although there certainly coudl always be others) and if that hotel hasn't released inventory to PRICELINE, you're bids will be futile until you reach the price range for the 5* properties.Would you stretch your budget to $125/nite for the 5* Wynn? Or since the Trump is acceptable changing your tactic to bid a bit higher than you have already for a 5* property, then if rejected try for a 4* with a lower maximum bid (say $20 or so less than your highest rejeted bid at the 5* level)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts regarding the above. orion1778 Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 Thanks for the tips. If the only 4* hotel in the North Strip zone (Treasure Island) has not released it's inventory to PRICELINE yet, at what point are they likely to do so?As much as I'd like to stay at the Wynn, I'm willing to stay in a less luxurious hotel as long as the price (and location) are right. $100 is still my price ceiling.
thereuare Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Thanks for the tips. If the only 4* hotel in the North Strip zone (Treasure Island) has not released it's inventory to PRICELINE yet, at what point are they likely to do so?Nobody can say, each hotel operates differently and there are a LOT of factors that go into hotel pricing and when a hotel would release inventory to the opaque suppliers. This hotel is not known to 'hold back' inventory and i only gave the above as one example of why it could be difficult when bidding an area which only has one 'known' hotel in the zone... if that hotel is busy for your dates for any particular reason it could be a futile effort. If you want to try up to $100 for a 4* i the North Strip zone, you have two re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)I'd resume as follows:Select 4* North Strip zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* North Strip zone and re-bid zone2...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90Any questions feel free to ask.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. orion1778 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Going to Vegas from May 21st - May 24th. Ideally I was trying to stay on the strip. Wasn't thrilled about the idea of staying at the Westin but would have been happy with the Trump (had I gotten it). My price ceiling was $100 per night. The strategy started with PRICELINE...Day OneDates: 5/21/09 - 5/24/094* Strip Vicinity North - BID $75 - Rejected4* add Boulder Strip [rebid zone] - BID $80 - Rejected4* add Nellis/Las Vegas Speedway [rebid zone]- BID $85 - RejectedDay TwoDates: 5/21/09 - 5/24/094* Strip Vicinity North - BID $85 - Rejected4* add Boulder Strip - [rebid zone] BID $90 - Rejected4* add Nellis/Las Vegas Speedway [rebid zone] - BID $95 - RejectedGave up on PRICELINE.Booked Thursday (5/21) and Friday (5/22) directly at the MGM Grand. Paid an average of $75 per night and used a promo code that includes a $35 activity credit (plus a few other bonuses).Used Better Bidding's HOTWIRE link to book a 5-star hotel in Central Strip for Saturday (5/23) at $143.Amenities:CasinoFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterGolf NearbyTennis NearbySpa Services Received: Wynn Las Vegas.Overall I paid an average of a little less than $98 per night (before taxes and fees) for two solid on-strip hotels. The Central Strip 5* was cheaper than all of the 4* and 3.5* hotels on the strip, so it was basically a no-brainier.
thereuare Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see that while you need to change hotels during your stay, you received two excellent properties and came in under your budget. As well, they're at opposite ends of the 'main' part of the strip, so if you do like to casino hop, you can plany your schedule accordingly, hitting the North strip hotels while at the Wynn and the South Strip hotels while at the MGM Grand.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay(s).
