theride66 Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Hi my wife and I are coming to NYC for the first time and therefore we would like our base to be in Times Square. Please advise of the best strategy in obtaining a 4 star hotel. Thanks,Rider
AaronJB Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Welcome to the site. What would be your max budget per night?I would also recommend reading this thread at the link below regarding staying in Times Square. Personally, TS was where I spent the least amount of time on my last trip to NYC - there's just so much the rest of the city has to offer.Times Square HotelsAlso, there's a definite possibility that if you try to stay in a neighboring area (say, Midtown East, for example), you may be able to get a better hotel deal.
theride66 Posted March 31, 2009 Author Report Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks for responding. My budget is $130 to $150 max. I thought TIMES SQ. was where the action is. Are you suggesting we should stay in other areas?
lethaltoenails Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 I recommend NOT staying in Times Square. Midtown East is a great area - close to Grand Central and 5th Ave. We just had a wonderful quiet room at the Hyatt this past weekend for $105 a night. We've also stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel - another very good deal. Any neighborhood in NY has something to offer, but IMHO, Times Sq. will have more noise and aggravation than other neighborhoods. The subways, taxis and buses can take you anywhere. The side streets in neighborhoods offer restaurants and pubs with great food at cheaper prices. I've lived in NYC for many years (in the past), and as a native NY-er, I'd never stay at a hotel in Times Square. Good luck with your bidding and have a great vacation.

theride66 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Hi there. I posted a thread earlier and tried to go on Priceline and use the stategies here, but i'm not sucessful and i figured i would start from scratch. My budget is $150 max and i'm looking for a 4* in either MTE or TS. Please advise as to the best strategy. Last time i used Priceline, i got rejected for $145 for May 14-May 18. Thanks,Rishi
AaronJB Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Please keep all discussions about the same trip in the same thread. I'm sorry to hear that your bids weren't accepted - and a little surprised, given that the prices don't seem terribly high for these dates. I don't think you're too far off, though. Maybe $120-125 will be the spot. Please use the site's PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links.
