bensandi Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Hi! This is my first time looking into using hotwire to bid on a room. I don't think priceline is an option since I need a room for 1 adult and 3 children under the age of 14. Is that true?I am looking for a room in DC starting Monday, 4/6 and would like to stay through the week. I found a good deal for $99 at a 4 star for 4/9-4/12, but the rates are really expensive for 4/6-4/9 so I would like to bid.I did a hotwire search for a 4 star in Alexandra and Old Town and a rate of $183 came up for a 4 star with a pool, restaruant etc with 4.1 miles to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), 21.6 miles to Washington Dulles Intl. (IAD) and a 4.5 rating on tripadvisor. Is this the Westin Alexandria?Any other suggestions would be helpful!thanks!
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)PRICELINE isn't an option and it is an option. To explain; you could potentially use PRICELINE for this situation, but there's no guarantee of getting two beds. If you could take a sleeping bag or another option in case you don't get two beds, you could try to "make it work" if you only ended up with one bed.If you absolutely, 100% need two beds, then PRICELINE isn't a good option - especially in a larger market like DC.
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Additionally, you cannot bid on HOTWIRE; it is a "fixed-price" service.
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 For 4/6-9, on Orbitz.com, I see the 4* Affinia Liason Hotel in DC for $199. If you use coupon code FABSAVE10, you get 10% off each night = $179.10.This would also appear to be a refundable reservation (aside from the cancel fee), but check the fine print to make sure. This hotel gets mostly excellent reviews (as do most of the other Affinia properties.)Please use the site's Orbitz.com link if this is of interest.
bensandi Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Thanks for the help! Any idea if the 4* in Alexandria would be the Westin on Hotwire? If it was, I could book 4/6-4/9 at the hotel with the $183 rate and the $99 rate for the rest of the trip. I will check out Orbitz some more. I tried the coupon code and it didn't work. Thanks!
bensandi Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Checked out the Liaison in DC and was so disappointed that it looks like an outdoor pool! :) Ugh! Any other suggestions?thanks!
AaronJB Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Bummer about the Affinia Liason not having an outdoor pool. However, I just noticed Expedia has a $140 price tag on that hotel for these dates - would that take the price down far enough to overlook the outdoor pool? About everything else in terms of higher-end properties are more expensive on these dates. What are the exact amenities you are seeing with the Alexandria property for these dates? Additionally, while the amenities could match what has been previously reported for the Westin Alexandria, keep in mind that there is the chance that it could be a previously unreported property.
