oriental_vanchick Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Originally I started bidding on a 3* in the same Downtown- Pike place zone. Bids were rejected at $55 and $60. I was thinking that if I bid much higher, I might as well try for a 4* in the same zone as previous postings showed successful bids in the mid-70's. At the 4* level, I bid at $68 and then rebid at $70 which was finally accepted for the Edgewater Hotel. I am mixed about the reviews of this hotel but I received some helpful feedback from this forum. We are arriving into Seattle late at night and leaving for Portland early the next morning so getting a great deal on a comfortable place to sleep was more important than a room with a view. AaronJB Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 I read some of the tripadvisor reviews regarding this property, and I think what I would do is, if you're getting there really late, act like you've been driving and/or travelling all day to get there (which you may be, I don't know) and you would greatly appreciate a room in a quieter area of the hotel. While you may not get a view, at least you may get up higher and not right near street noise, etc. Just a thought.Let us know how things go - the site's review section is always looking for submissions - and thank you for posting your win.
oriental_vanchick Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Hehe. I had similar thoughts actually. Doesn't hurt to ask! Thanks!
oriental_vanchick Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 We had an amazing stay at The Edgewater! Here's a summary:We took the Amtrak from Vancouver, BC - Seattle and grabbed a cab to the hotel We arrived at 10:30 pm on April 9th and were greeted warmly at the door. The check-in process was very efficient and we were given a room with no mention about being Priceline customers. We were not offered any upgrades. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that we had a lovely room on the 1st floor with a spectacular waterfront view! I was totally expecting to get a noisier city view room after some of the reviews that I read. I had called about 3 days before to confirm the reservation and to give advance warning of our late check-in time. I was told over the phone that my reservations were good for their standard Priceline city view room. I am wondering if we lucked out with a water view because we checked in at a later time (perhaps the city view room was offered to another Priceline customer that arrived earlier in the afternoon?)I appreciated the cute little touches in the room--the furry bear footstool by the fireplace, the basket of treats, an impressive liquor selection, signature Edgewater bear and bathrobes. The closet was spacious and I like that a light goes on automatically when you open the closet door. My 3 favorites of the room: 1) view and smell of being by the water 2) stunning bathroom (decked out with an amazing rock wall shower, spa-like showerhead, bowl basin, tilt mirror, magnifying and light up makeup mirror, dimmable lights 3) huge King bed super comfortableWe were scheduled for an early departure next day so we decided to have a quick breakfast in the beautiful hotel restaurant "Six Seven". He ordered the marion berry pancakes and I had a continental breakfast (3 pastries and a very lovely fruit platter - honeydew, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries. Coffee/juice. I asked the front door man (Jason) to arrange for a taxi to take us back to the train station at 8 am and he offered to take us there himself in the hotel van for free! I thought that was a nice gesture given that the train station is on the outskirts of downtown area and there was one other girl who had requested the shuttle into downtown. Thanks Jason!I was really sad our stay at the Edgewater was so short. I felt the experience was quite luxurious, romantic and a perfect start to our Easter weekend. The hotel location is not in the heart of downtown, but I rather preferred it that way!Highly recommend this hotel.
inspiration100 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Nice, glad you liked it. Completely different than my stay, but better none the less! Still warning other members that many of us have had different experiences. I really felt let down at this hotel in most every way possible, but I think some of us have made it clear that they were being rude to priceline guests. I think they might have gotten the picture and fixed this. Seems like your trip was ideal as well as THIS posters trip! Thanks for updating this thread btw, makes me want to try and stay at it a third time. I found it very unfair for a hotel to charge $30 for an upgrade when the rest of the hotel was empty. The Seattle hotel guy.... Stayed in 14 hotels downtown and counting! Favorite Hotel Downtown: The Camlin Seattle (It's now a timeshare)
