marnie_g Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Bidding yesterday for Vienna only 1 night - No wins at $70 - will try again - I think I'm a long way off - I really want City Centre location. A good rated tripadvisor/rick steves recommendation about 3 star Pension with continental breakfast is Dr Geissler in the central city area which sells for the period at 77E approx $US100. We want to be in the city area as we are arriving by train late - south station - overnighting - a day to look around before heading to west station and on to Prague. So I think I will wait a few days and go up with the slowly. Vienna seems to be the city in between Prague and Budapest (very good bidding 5 star wins at great prices) that is very expensive. I know its a beautiful city - however can anyone tell me why this is so? I think there is something special on with the Opera.Any tips appreciated. Thanksmarnie_g
thereuare Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I don't know much about Vienna, but there could be an event taking place as you suggest which makes rates high for your particular dates, or if prices are generally high at all times, it could be a hotel market with little supply and constant demand (ie- always tourists or events taking place and not enough hotel rooms to satisfy the need)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated as to your progress. Romelle Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 marnie_gTry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna for some quick background on Vienna. Anything from castles to United Nations to coffee houses with incredible pastries. At different times it was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire and the Austrian Empire. Also had some visionary leaders in urban planning, so central streets are wide and straight, and buildings are lower. You are really early in your bidding. Might not be anything out there yet? Don't get in a hurry to go too high.Romelle
marnie_g Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Posted April 2, 2009 Thanks I will wait and see. We are in Prague for a couple of days the week before this stopover as we cruise the Rhine, that's why we are only staying a day. Evidently the cruise co take us on a couple of really good city tours - I believe its a really beautiful city.cheers, marnie
