splat Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Hi,I'm quite new to this but am looking to stay at the Affinia Dumont for two days at the end of April. I know it's rated a 3.5 star and there is one other hotel in that category for that area - so I suppose I'm fine with either but would prefer the other....Any help on bidding is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
AaronJB Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 The Affina Dumont has rarely been seen as a win on PRICELINE. I always recommend users not go in trying to get a particular hotel via PRICELINE, as given the way the service works, going for a specific hotel definitely sets up the potential disappointment of some other, unexpected hotel appearing as the win. What dates are you looking at in particular?Additionally, given what I mentioned above regarding not trying for a particular hotel, does that change your strategy or are you interested in staying in that zone no matter the hotel?
splat Posted March 31, 2009 Author Report Posted March 31, 2009 Yeah, it really doesn't matter too much if I don't get that hotel - but there are only two 3.5 stars in that area, so I figure I have a decent chance - but I'm fine with the other one.I'm looking at Apr 28-Apr 30Thanks for the reply!
splat Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 First time trying priceline and got Affinia Dumont on the 2nd try for $112/night - end of April for two nights....awesome! Rated number 5 of all hotels in New York - I am sooooo happy!Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $112.00 (USD)Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 2Room Subtotal: $224.00 (USD)Taxes and Fees: $50.08 (USD)Total Room Cost: $274.08 (USD)
Shazza Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Would you like to share your bidding process? I see you got it on the second try - was that immediately after your first bid (ie did you re-bid or wait 24 hours)? I am interested in any of the hotels in the ESB area - but Affinia Dumont would make me extra happy :)I started bidding today but I think I totally low-balled it too much. Would love to hear some more details on how you did it.Thanks.
splat Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Posted April 2, 2009 My 1st bid was $90 for ESB and it was rejected...then Priceline said that I could bid again, but at $22 higher - I figured there was a better way of bidding but since I'm new to this and wasn't quite sure of the way around the bidding process, I thought that $112 (90+22) was still totally reasonable...so I went for $112 and it was accepted. I guess I probably could have saved a few dollars doing things differently???, but again, when the hotel quotes $212 on their website this to me was a great savings!apr 28-apr 30 with option of extending
Shazza Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Thanks for the info :) I bid today for 5/7 through 5/11. I started at $85 and got up to $100 with re-bidding with zones that didnt have 3.5* or greater hotels but had no luck. I am going to try again tomorrow when my 24 hour delay is up.I think my problem is that i am bidding for 4 days - and the room price for the first night is about $50 higher than the next three nights - so there may be something going on in the hotel and I may not be able to get all 4 nights at a lower rate. Fortunately I have some time to figure out a strategy.BTW it was interesting to read that priceline said you could bid higher - I've never seen that before (then again I have only used it for LA in the past). Thanks again.
