northfacestl84 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 I have used Priceline many times, and never have had a problem getting awesome rates on hotels... esp in Chicago, until now.I am trying to get either a 4* or 3.5* in the North Mich. Ave./River North area or the Millennium, Loop & Grant Park area. I have bid many times over the past few days starting at $60 and I am now up to $92 and have had no luck. In the past, I have paid as low as $50 for a 4* hotel in downtown Chicago.I looked up some information, and found that there will be a convention in town at this time with 25,000 people attending. Also, the St. Louis Cardinals are in town to play the Cubs, which is the reason I will be up there. My question is, is it just too early for me to be bidding, or are the prices high because of the convention and will only get higher as times goes on?What should I do, bid higher now or wait a little while till the time gets closer? Thanks in advance for the help.
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Welcome to the site.In the past, you have paid as low as $50, but I'm guessing that wasn't during the Summer, nor was it during a convention. This is the middle of the Summer, and given that there is a convention, prices are going to be higher. Even if prices do come down a little from their current levels (and there's no guarantee of that), given that this would be in the middle of the busy Summer season, the price floor is going to be higher than what it is now. However, I don't think you're that far off; HOTWIRE has 4*'s for around $140-149.What would be your max bid per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.
northfacestl84 Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 The max we want to spend is $100/night.Thanks for the help.
thereuare Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 If you want to try to lock this in now i would try as follows (which takes into consideration the failed bids you have already made... this is not recommended for anyone following along starting 'new' without any prior bidding history):At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Loop...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rjected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rjected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA and Loop...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any quesitons feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
