Priceline and Bedding

I'm new to the list and have a question. I've used Hotwire for hotels but have shied away from Priceline because according to them "We can only say for certain that the room we book for you is guaranteed for double occupancy." Therefore when traveling with a child, I don't want to take a chance on not having enough beds once the bid is accepted. Should I be concerned? Any advice? Thanks.

Funny - I thought your question was going to be about sheets and bedspreads because it said Priceline and Bedding!

As to the number of beds issue - you are right to be concerned. Since PRICELINE does not guarantee two beds, you could get put in a room that only has one and has no room for a rollaway. Hotels will sometimes give you a room with two beds, but they are not obligated to do so. Other times, they will insist you "upgrade" to two beds and charge more, negating the savings you received thru Priceline.

With a child, HOTWIRE is probably a more practical option. When we recently traveled with our two kids, I used HOTWIRE and it worked out fine. For myself for business, I save more money with PRICELINE.

It's a calculated risk... as i often comment, in Orlando where hotels are used to large familiar and quad+ occupancy i would probalby take the risk (asusming i was bidding at the higher star rated hotels)... in NYC i would never take the risk.

Also to take into consideration is how old your kids are... easy when they're little, not so easy when your "kids" are 12 and 16.

I always try to figure the "worst case scenario" and decide how i would handle it... if i can live with the worst case scenario than it's worth the risk... if not, then i book 2 rooms (which can often be cheaper than booking one direct) or book for triple/quad occupancy on HOTWIRE.
