Hi - I have been following this forum for a while and have picked up quite a few tips. I am just about ready to start bidding but have a couple of questions to clarify before I do......

1. I would like a 4* primarily in the mid-town area. Last time I was in NYC I stayed at Morgans which was perfect and would like to get similar again. Am I needlessly ruling out any areas that you would recommend to be central and have good subway links.

2. I know a week is unusual - what rate do you think I should be targeting? Also, is there anything on in NYC that week that may affect availability and price?

Many thanks and keep up the good work!!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Just about all the midtown zones (MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB) all work out fine for the average visitor and all the 'known' 4* prooperties in these zones generally have good subway access.

If you let us know your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. I'll also add that the MTE zone has been one of the least expensive lately, but also lately the W New York has been coming up for longer stays, and the reviews have been mixed, although the last few have been pretty good (similar can be said for the Sheraton New York in the MTW zone where the reviews are mixed)... so if bididng these zones i would at least make sure you're "ok" with these properties should you land them.

Thank you - I am happy to bid up to $160, I will check the reviews but have spent enough time in hotels to know that reviews are very personal and the price/star equation is a much better guide to satisfaction. A 4* for $100 will always be sweet in my opinion!!

Thanks again

I will check the reviews...

So are you ready to bid on the previously discussed zones or are you going to get back to us regarding which zones you're willing to bid? (wasn't clear from your post above so didn't want you waiting on us while we were wating on you :) )

Ready to go now thereuare and thanks for the help. I will be sure to sue your links. I am not particularly budget sensitive but like to get a bargain so let me know if my target price if $160 is realistic.

I would be happy to get a hotel in MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB. As a wildcard I would probably add Soho and Downtown as I like the look of the hotels down there.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks again

Does this mean you want to include Downtown/SoHo in your bidding or not? If you ask my opinion, i wouldn't recommend it for a one week stay... the commute to midtown isn't too bad if you do it over a few days and you're excited about being in a new city and such, but over the course of a week it will get a bit tiresome after awhile. It is a viable option if/when midtown rates are high and you can't get anything within your buddet, but i wouldn't include it from the beginning, unless you had reason to be downtown frequently.

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS and TS...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access priceline.

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and re-bid zone5...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $150

If the above is rejected there is a 4* hotel on HOTWIRE in the MTE zone with:

Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Interent, Business, Spa for $154

... best guess is the W New York

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks thereuare. I followed the strategy and got the Grand Hyatt New York for $140. Reviews look mixed but at a price that is half the current published "best" rates I am sure I will be happier than their regular customers.

Also, I got spooked by the Sheraton NY and left out MTW as a result. I may have been able to get cheaper but hey I am happy with what I got.

I used your PRICELINE link.

Thanks again

Congratulations on your success!

Less than half price... a very nice deal for this property and glad to see you're happy with the results.

If you haven't seen me write it before, i often recommend users in this area give Ess-A-Bagel a try for breakfast one morning... one of the best bagels in the city and makes for a good, inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. About a 10+ minute walk from this hotel on Third Ave at 51st St.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
