Hotwire Hotel: 3* or 4* May 7-10

My mom and I are going to stay in NYC May 7-10 to celebrate Mother's Day Weekend plus my 40th birthday and her 62nd. I will be staying at the Hilton New York on May 6 for business, and obviously the easiest thing would be to extend that stay with Priceline or Hotwire so I don't have to move hotels, but I think they may be a bit out of our budget.

We're trying to get $150 or under a night including all taxes/fees for May 7, 8 and 9 (checking out on May 10). My mom will be driving, and we realize parking will probably be about $25-$40/day in addition to the hotel cost; any ideas on areas where the parking might be cheaper (away from TS?) would be appreciated.

Another thing on the wish list is 2 double beds; a king bed would be okay, but a Queen or Double just wouldn't be preferable (as much as we love each other--haha). Based on what I have been reading, does that mean I should definitely stick with Hotwire? If you bid on Hotwire hoping for 2 double beds, do you need to put in 3 adults? (I tried this and it really seems to limit options and bumps prices up).

Would be looking for a 3* or 4* and we're familiar with NYC hotel prices, etc. Would be fine with a place like Doubletree or HI with free breakfast if it is newer construction.

Pretty open to location as long as it's close to a subway line--anywhere from MTW to MTE to UWS to Chelsea or Soho. Only areas we would probably want to stay away from are the financial district and the Columbus Circle/CPS area. The place I seem to stay the most is in Korea Town, primarily at the Avalon (32nd? 34th? somewhere around there). Have stayed in Chelsea and the UWS in the past and happy with both places.

We have a cancelable reservation right now at the Soho Solita but the reviews about the noise level due to the nightclub below are concerning, and I think we can do better on the rate (close to $700, but that included one extra night that this reservation doesn't include).

Would greatly appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks very much!

These are the other options I'm looking at on Hotwire: 2.5* and 3* in Chelsea-MSG, repsectively. Any idea which hotels they might be? Also, even though there are 2 of us, I entered 3 into my Hotwire search. Does that mean our chances of getting 2 double beds will be pretty good?

Would one of these be preferable over the other? Is one closer to the subway than the other?

Thanks so much!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you're looking for separate sleeping accoodations you need to search for triple occupancy... sometimes you won't see such a big price jump if you sarch for 2adults/1child instead of 3adults/0chidren. Searchign for triple occupancy should provide separate 'sleeping accomodations', which usually means a second bed, but could also be a rollaway brought into the room, pullout sofabed, etc.

The 3* MTC property is a match for the Sheraton Manhattan so that would be our best guess for that one.

The 3* Chelsea property is a match for the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden so that would be our best guess there. I'm not sure of the 2.5* property but that's not a star rating i would pursue in NYC.
