I tried to book 3.5* NYC (Chelsea-MSG) for 7/13-7/16, 2 adults and 2 children.

From the topics below, it looks like this is the Doubletree Chelsea.

However, after selecting this hotel and going through the payment process etc... I get a message that reads This Hotel is No Longer Available.

If this hotel isn't available, then why does it still show up on HOTWIRE as an option?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

It's the way HOTWIRE's backend works, and while the following may not be entirely accurate (or accurate at all the way things are actually done), it's an oversimplified way to think/understand it:

HOTWIRE does thousands of searches an hour, and to access the inventory data from a third part (or multiple third parties) for each one of these searches would not only take awhile (so that it would take much longer than it currently takes for the results to be shown), but it would also be server resource intensive. So imagine that HOTWIRE downloads all the information periodially throughout the day so that all the data (current at time of downloaded) is "in house" and they can determine what hotels to offer on a given search without reaching out to external suppliers (for an anology, think about how quickly opening a file on your computer opens vs. opening up a webpage)

Now let's assume that the Doubletree offered one rooom available for your date range and therefore they offer it on your search. When you try to purchase it, HOTWIRE then attempts to complete the transation, but in the interim somebody else purchased that one room avaialble, the Doubletree took down the inventory, or raised the price of that inventory... you'll therefore get a message that the transaction couldn't be completed, as you did. This will be updated the next time hotwire downloads 'updated' date later in the day OR if/when the Doubletree adds more rooms available for your dates the transaction will go thru and complete.

Another possibility is that HOTWIRE has having a communication issue confirming the availability of the hotel when trying to complete the transaction, so an error message is generated that the transaction can not be completed.

I'd give this one 12+ hours for the system to "clean out" and try your search again later tonite or sometime tomorrow. Given this is a new hotel, i would suspect that more inventory will be added in the near future.
